Regent vs Azamara

We are looking for comparisons between the two lines. We have sailed with Regent many times (7 times) going back to when they were Radisson but have found some of their recent changes in policies annoying and are exploring alternatives.

Here also waiting for reply.

2 times Regent and enjoy that. Now Azamara because we like the cruise and when I read some reviews Azamara is much better food.

Cabin is smaller, drinks are less choise but if the choise of wine is oke then it is fine and cocktails for my wife are there so that must be oke.

I have sailed Regent once and Azamara twice (third one coming up), so I am far from experienced on either. The ONLY thing I liked better about Regent was the stateroom...much larger with a walk-in closet...it was delightful.

I only drink wine and have been satisfied with Azamara's offerings. My husband only drinks martinis and is content with what's on offer at Azamara or paying for what he wants. So the all-inclusive alcohol on Regent is lost on us.

We like to DIY in ports, so would never again pay for included shore excursions, although we found that Regent handled the ones we did go on very nicely.

It may have been only me, and food is subjective, but I prefer the food on Azamara.

And finally, we found staff on Regent pretty cold and somewhat unaccommodating. You can read many accounts on these boards of Azamara personnel's outstanding performance.

I have many nights on Regent (Titanium) and only one 15 day cruise on Azamara. We LOVED the Azamara Journey, reminded me a lot of the old Radisson days. The staff was super. Since we were on the recent April crossing from Miami to Athens, we had lots of sea days. I think Azamara did an amazing job of daytime activities, something for everyone. We even had a daily Texas Hold'em game each afternoon in the casino.

My best suggestion is to be sure and stay in a Continental Suite. The size and layout is great with similar square footage to the standard cabin size of Regent cabins. I actually liked it better because it was square instead of rectangular. We were close to the aft elevator, very quiet , #8059 I believe and would highly recommend the location. It came with a butler (we've rarely had those before) who was excellent,a bar set up with 4 bottles of liquor, it also came with 250 complimentary internet minutes, a free bag of laundry and ability to eat at the specialty restaurants as often as you'd like without the $25. up charge the standard cabins charge. I think we ate in each specialty restaurant 4 times. It also allows you to use the large private jacuzzi behind the fitness center without a charge. The food was good and like Regent, you can special order the night before. There are complimentary laundry facilities like Regent offers.

We were fine with their liquor and wine choices. We enjoyed the Azamara experience enough that we did an onboard future booking. They have a very customer friendly change/cancellation policy since we just booked something quickly without giving it a lot of thought knowing we would change. The group of about 20 that we were traveling with are all friends we've made through the years on Regent. ALL of us were very impressed and all will likely cruise on Azamara again in our future. In fact some are "done" with Regent due to their high pricing.

We've been with Azamara 8 times and tried Regent for the first time this year. Overall we thought Regent the superior product although we wouldn't consider them for Europe - from the UK, too expensive. The public areas on Regent were more spacious, the cabins larger and more relaxing and the bathrooms much better. For us the service was also very good on Regent, but you won't have the Captain dropping by to ask if he can share your table at breakfast or lunch. The included alcohol and the entertainment are better, for us, on Regent. Food - always subjective, I know - I thought the fresh fruit at breakfast gave the edge to Regent, just about. Lunches we thought better on ACC, dinner in the MDR we preferred on Regent. BUT we're back on Azamara in a few weeks, it's more fun! Our sea days on Regent became dreary - very, in fact. The jazz brunch, deck barbecues, White Nights etc do add to the Azamara experience.

Six Regent cruises under our belt and our next one is on Azamara Journey. We got a chance to visit the Quest when it was docked in San Francisco and thought it would be a good fit for us. We like smaller ships and all-inclusive atmosphere.

Although I can't compare the on board experience yet, two things about the pre cruise experience that I find I like better than Regent: First, a reliable spokesperson (Bonnie, of course) fielding and answering questions that arise on the cruise critic boards about the product. Second, I am about to book our air for our cruise and was pleased to learn about the options available through Choice Air-one way flights much more reasonably priced than I found on the open market. Regent charges $175 per person each way for deviating from their "all-inclusive" air and we usually end up incurring these extra fees.

Yes, I had intended to comment favourably on Azamara's presence on these forums. Our experience of Regent's inclusive air package was excellent. We were travelling to Australia and the total cost was very reasonable. We also requested an upgrade on the section from LA on our return and were very pleasantly surprised at the cost. We would happily return to either cruise line. After ACC again next month we are trying Silversea in November - I think it's perhaps easy to take the benefits for granted if you stick with one line.

Thank you for the honorable mentions re. our line participating on this forum. All credit goes to @LarryPimentel, who personally understands the importance of social media and puts resources behind it. FYI, he is very active on social media if you want to follow daily tweets!
