From Conquest Class to Fantasy Class

All of our previous cruises (recently) have been on large ships (110,000 tons)(Dream, Valor, Glory, Sunshine)....if we were to book a cruise on the Fantasy (Fantasy Class)(70,000 tons), do you think we would be disappointed in the amenities? I am not one to let small things ruin my trip....however, we haven't been on a smaller ship since 1988 on the Jubilee.

Some of best cruises were on the Fascination. Love the smaller ship. The crew on smaller ships seem to be a lot friendlier and happier in my experience.

If you will miss things like the rope course, thrill theater, etc then maybe you won't like it. It is all up to you really.

Our first cruise was Legend, then Triumph, Conquest. We had the same concern last year on the Ecstasy but we absolutely loved every minute of it. Less crowds, staff was wonderful, plenty to do without walking a mile to do it. It was just about perfect.

We "ended up" on the Breeze this year, only because we wanted a longer trip with more variety in ports.

Jubilee was my first cruise in 2001. I thought she was HUGE! :p

I have about 38 nights on Fantasy and have also sailed Fascination twice and Elation once. I like the Fantasy class. And you can see from the list in my sig that I've gone from Fantasy-class to Spirit-class to Conquest-class, and back and forth. I also did a 5+7 B2B on Fantasy.

I hate the big TV and stadium seating on the Conquest class ships. I tend to not spend any time in the main Lido pool area anyway. At least the Serenity Deck on Fantasy-class is aft and away from the Lido pool noise. Nothing like parking yourself up on Serenity on Glory or Freedom and having to listen to the blaring TV. Not very serene.

And while there's no Guy's Burgers, or Blue Iguana, or Fish and Chips, I certainly don't go hungry. I get a deli sandwich for lunch most days. IMO, the food on Fantasy in the MDR (on my sailings) has been better than any other ship. I think she just has a really good head chef.

I'm not a balcony snob, either. Since I sail solo a lot, and would prefer to spend my money sailing more often, I'm perfectly happy in an inside cabin. In fact, I prefer them to just an OV (love that dark cabin for sleeping!).

My favorite is the Spirit class, but I have absolutely no problem on Fantasy class. I'll have sailed Pride, Splendor, Freedom, Conquest, and Splendor again (or maybe Sunshine) before I sail Fantasy again on 4/30/16. I'm sure I'll enjoy her just as much as I have every other time I've sailed her!

I stopped sailing those old small ships years ago. I can remember one MDR had plastic palm trees in it, jeez!

Several years ago, I sailed the Disney Dream out of Canaveral, and one of those tiny ships was beneath us in the harbor. It was pathetic looking, and all the Dream pax were commenting on how they were glad to be on a modern, comfortable, and state of the art vessel rather than a 20 year old crate almost ready for the scrap heap.

If I wanted to go back in time, I would choose a Mississippi paddle wheel steamer.

I had similar concerns before my cruise on the Fantasy earlier this month. The last cruise we had done was on the Breeze. While the 2.0 features are nice, if I can book a ship that has them I will, but it doesn't make or break the trip. The cruise on the Fantasy was one of the nicest most relaxing cruises I have done in a while. I love all the different classes of ships and the simplicity of the Fantasy class is something you just don't see anymore.

Excellent! One less snob to encounter on any of my Fantasy-class cruises. :)

You will miss some amenities. I love the Conquest class, no doubt.

Im sure Fantasy is a fine ship but, 25 years old!

My guess is She will be the next one retired from the Carnival line and heading to- Ibero Cruise line

We started with Carnival on Fastasy class and when we moved up to 7 day cruises always did Spirit or Conquest class.

More stuff on bigger ships so dont think we would do fantasy again even if they did offer 7 day cruises.

My sentiments exactly. Our first two cruises were aboard the Fantasy, the next was the Triumph and then the Conquest and Freedom. I don't think I will ever go back to the Fantasy class unless someone gives me an all expense paid cruise aboard one of them. :D

You have my assurances there isn't a chance that I will be booking a Fantasy class ship during the rest of my lifetime.

Be assured also that I will confine my comments to the ship and not the passengers.

Happy sailing.

I just had a casino free cruise on the Freedom. If I were offered a freebie on a Fantasy class ship only, I would have turned it down.

Sounds like us. Though we prefer an OV. The Fantasy class feels like coming home.

They're smaller and its easier to figure out where everything is (except that aft MDR).

We cruised on the Inspiration, a Fantasy class ship, and absolutely loved it..... Go have fun and try not to compare one ship to the other.... Enjoy the ship for what it is and you will have a fine vacation.

We sailed Fantasy seven years after our first Carnival cruise, all on larger-class ships. I think this one was cruise #15? We liked Fantasy a lot. No, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the larger ships, but we had a great time. However, it was a 7-day cruise out of Charleston. We wouldn't travel that distance for a shorter cruise on a Fantasy-class ship. In fact, I don't think we'll ever book anything shorter than a 5-day cruise in the future.
