Important !!! Istanbul Cruise Port Error

On Azamara web site there are descriptions to the cruise ports for embarking passengers. The description for the Istanbul port must be wrong. fatally wrong if anyone tries to make it there on their own. http://www.azamaraclubcruises.com/directions-embarkation-ports/port-istanbul-turkey

All information of the ports in Istanbul indicates that ships depart from either Salipazari docks or the Karakoy dock, both fairly close to the city centre. Azamara's directions leads to a port 30 kilometers outside the city. Can we have a confirmation that this is correct. I would not like to be on the wrong dock on the day of departure.:(

Hello Oddjob16 -

Thank you for your message. I've passed it on to our ship operation's team for their review.

I will get back to you with their comments.

Oddjob16,

I was browsing through posts this morning and noticed that you are from Alesund, Norway. Any chance you were on the 4 day Malaga-Malaga cruise last November and shared a table in the MDR with a couple from Toronto?

Is there any response on this yet please? I also noted that the info on the Azamara site looked ridiculous. We will be getting a taxi from our hotel to the Cruise Port on June 3rd & I don't know where to ask for.

Has anyone on this board departed from Istanbul & knows where the Ship will be docked? Thanks.

The two cruise ports are right next to each other and very conveniently located smack in the middle of town on the Bosphorus. You likely easily will see your ship from your hotel because Istanbul is a city of many hills. If not, your taxi driver certainly will know where to take you. The taxi ride from our Sultanahmet hotel cost only about $14 in 2008.

Last year we joined the Quest in Istanbul for the Black Sea cruise. The ship was docked right across from the Golden Horn in the Uskudar side of the bridge. You could see the ship from the roof of our downtown hotel. We boarded on a Sunday and it took only 30 minutes from the time we left the hotel until we were in our cabin on the ship.

Hello Oddjob16 and other patient readers -

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you with updated information about the Istanbul port information. I'm undergoing some medical treatment and was out of pocket for a few days. There definitely was an error with the port directions and we are usually at the Karakoy dock.

I'll get back with a final confirmation and appreciate your patience.

Sincerely,

Bill Leiber

Now that we have straightend out the port of Istanbul for our group departing june 3.rd I hope that the web site directions will be modified. As you said, Bill, -You are usually at Karakoy , but Salipazari is the dock next to it. Directions to the port of Istanbul should be to this general area of the port and anyone can find their ship here, whether it is Karakoy or Salipazari.

I did check out the area where the present directons are leading to,-and yes this port is called Marinturk Istanbul City Port. Maybe some computer clerc made this connection and put this up on the web site. This is a nice marina in the little town of Pendik. There are some nice hotels here and a very beautiful area to stay for a couple of nights. So to avoid future misunderstandings about "port of Istanbul" I strongly suggest that the web directions to the port is altered ASAP. :)

We are looking forward to our first visit to Istanbul, and are pleased to have this sorted out.

BUT, -this is important and what made me a bit dissapointed: The main reason for spending the extra money and pre-ordering an Azamara transfer from the hotel to the port was that I could see on the map how far it was from the city. Now it is obvious that we are actually within walking distance from the port. :(

Hello Azamara Journey June 3, 2014 Travelers -

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

We have been advised by our port agent that depending on port congestion, the Azamara Journey will be at one of the two Terminal Buildings in Istanbul:

* Yolcu Salonu Karakoy or * Yeni Yolcu Terminali Salipazari

Note: Both terminals are right next to each other. There will be ground personnel available to guide you to the correct terminal.

Best Regards,

  • 3 months later...

Many people, including myself, only print out the boarding pass and not the complete e-docs. I just checked Azamara's website which does list the correct address for the port, but the directions accompanying the address take you to a completely different place (Mariturk Istanbul City Port) many km. out of town.

Can anyone fix this?

I see you were chasing this in April.

Surely even you must have a quiet sigh at the failure in the AZAMAZING marketing dept to change the most basic details on a website i.e. boarding point for any independent travellers.

CAN you find out if anybody will take RESPONSIBILITY for this.

Good luck and keep trying.

I started this thread and find it weird that this hasn't been fixed yet. It is annoying to get wrong directions to the port,-EVEN if you might get correct port directions in the ticket itself. What if you decide to take hotel close to the port? In this case you will find yourself in the very nice city called Pendik outside of Istanbul, but still 30 km out of town. There is NOT a cruise port here. It is an exclusive marina. Many nice hotels and,-obviously, somebody is bound to make a reservation to stay here pre-cruise. :(

Hello Istanbul Travelers -

I've passed on your questions about the exact terminal scheduled for the Azamara Journey on August 30, 2013 in Istanbul to our itinerary and destinations planner, Claudius Docekal. He reports, based on information from our port agent, that the pier location will be at SALIPAZARI / YENI YOLCU TERMINALI.

Also, Claudius wanted to make sure that you realize that the above berthing is subject to change and confirmation by the Harbor Master.

In addition, August 30 is a National holiday in Turkey; however, although the banks will be closed the shops will be open.

The next step is to reconfirm the pier directions shown on our website.

Best Regards,

Bill Leiber

Booking a hotel based on generic info and not specific info is a risk. Take it if you want. Berths can always change, but if you like a gamble there's always the casino onboard!

The Guest Ticket Booklet has the address of the port and instructions to show the cab driver where to go. I hope these directions are correct. There are directions on how to get to the port from Taxim Sq and from the airport.
