Enough time in LAX from Sydney

Sorry -- I'm back. Delta has once again changed our flight schedule. We now arrive in LAX from Sydney at 8:00 a.m. onNov. 24. We now have another Delta flight from LAX to ATL at 11:12 a.m. (different ticketing).

We will have carryon only -no checked baggage (having it shipped) and we have GOES. I would think 3 hours is OK assuming the flight is on time. AM I correct or should we try something else.

Thanks again in advance for your help. Hopefully this will be the last Delta change.

We flew Delta on our Australia trip in 2013. Our connection was in LAX. Three hours should be fine. As I recall, even through we changed aircraft, the flights, ATL to Sydney and Sydney to ATL were considered one flight ( 16 and 17).

I think three hours in LAX was what we had.

You would want to check in for the LAX-ATL flight online before you leave SYD. At SYD, DL only sees you as a pax to LAX and they do not have to check you in on your second flight. Though they might wish to - I cannot say whether they even have the ability to do so, since you are on two separate tickets. I do know that DL has stated that they will not through-check bags on separate tickets - haven't tried tickets.

In doing so, you save that process at LAX. Three hours should be OK, though you may have to do a T5-T6 (or vv) terminal switch.

If you have to transfer between Terminal 5 and 6, here's a map to show them:

Also, Delta's policy to not check luggage through on a two-ticket itinerary was based on the second ticket being on a DIFFERENT airline. Call Delta to confirm, but I am pretty sure they will check you all the way through to ATL since both flights are with Delta.

We like to take a 1/2 day off and go to a hotel after such long flights. With the change you might be able to get a long layover that allows this. The airport hotels pretty cheap in LAX and the shuttle is free. Makes a world of difference to the body!!:p
