New Gates Being Placed in Position

We saw three of the new gates along the shore on our partial transit last month. They are huge! It was a great cruise and itinerary.

 

Yes they certainly are huge, weighing over 3000 tons each! By comparison one leaf of the heaviest of the present locks miter gates "only" weighs in a little over 700 tons.

Will be great to see the construction of the locks during our cruise which adds to the excitement of this cruise.

Fairly short video of the first of the gates being installed on the new Pacific Locks. This gate is the upper most gate, in another article they termed the position as "lock head one." In other words it will be the gate that separates the lock from Gaillard Cut (Gatun Lake).
