Favorite Piece of Travel Clothing and Why

OK. I'll go first.

My favorite piece of travel clothing is my Little Black Traveler's Dress. I bought it years ago from Sahalie (the catalog and website). Sahalie now calls it the Adventurer's Little Black Dress. It's a classed up Tshirt dress - it has some shaping to it. I can dress it up, or wear it casual. One dress is all I ever take and I'm fine everywhere I go. Takes up very little room (I can roll it or flat pack it). I can wash it in the sink and hang it up to dry if I need to.

Sahalie has changed it just a little over the years and has now added more colors. But, it's a great piece to own. I put it up against my Eileen Fisher black dress and I still like it!!!

Wow, it's tough to pick just one favorite....

Keeping in mind most of my travel involves Europe in the off-season, I would probably pick my black ponte-knit slim pants (at the moment). I'm not a dress person, but like Slidergirl's little black dress, they can be dressed up or down and are appropriate for most any occasion short of a really fancy event.

Speaking of fancy events, my latest fashion "crush" is from a boutique called Babette. The clothes apparently travel wonderfully. I would love to have something like these for a dressy outfit: http://shopbabette.com/babette-collection/pants/crop-urban-pant.html

I have to bring black shrugs and cardigans for layering. They go with everything!

And I need my running shoes to get through the airports, terminals, and tours. They save my feet so I can wear heels on formal nights.:)

Favorite piece of travel clothing . . . obviously, I'm thinking cruising here, so I say a casual dress. A simple little dress is quick to put on -- I'm thinking of something knit that just pulls over your head, no zippers or buttons. It's super comfortable, and it's fine to wear to breakfast, to the casino, or even as a cover-up by the pool. It'll do for a casual dinner in the buffet, a stroll on deck with your honey, or a day of shopping in port. You can pair it with flip-flops for the beach or little flat Keds for walking in town.

As for making it a "little black dress", NO! Black is a horrible color for cruising in the Caribbean! People tend to lean towards it because it matches everything, but so do lots of other things -- if you just take a moment to match them together. And black is the worst possible color for dinner because about 95% of all the women wear black! Choose black ONLY if you want no one to notice you!

I think my favorite piece of clothing is my black lands end starfish knit pants. I wear them at home and for travel they are so comfortable. They even have a little waist pocket for a key card or cash. They are not very heavy and I could wear them on any cruise that my have some cooler temps. Already planning to take them on my NE/Canada cruise in September.

One of my favorite things to wear when I travel is my boyfriend-style jeans. They are so broken in and comfortable, and I just love them. :D Also, I always wear or carry a hat. Gotta have one when I get off the plane and my hair is all crazy looking. Usually, I take a poorboy cap that fits easily in my carry-on bag.:D

A black/white maxi dress. You know the kind you can smoosh into a ball and wear it anyway. It's so comfy and if it's cool, I can throw on a sweater or jean jacket. And I can dress it up with nice sandals, jewelry, and a wrap.:)

I have a pair of black Chico's Zenergy pants that I wear on almost every airplane ride. Comfie like a pair of pajama pants, hold their shape and can also be worn on casual nights on a cruise. I don't feel like a wrinkled mess getting off the plane and there is no binding waistband.

Other than that, I do have a sun visor that has been on every cruise and every land trip, plus beach days, for about 10 years now. It still looks brand new. It was a birthday gift from my husband, I wouldn't have paid that much for it myself. The brand is Helen Kaminski, the visor is similar to this one http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/helen-kaminski-marina-visor/3399704?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=60140346&fashionColor=Natural%2F+Nougat+Stripe&resultback=324&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-searchresults-_-1_1_B My head is larger than average, I think, because every visor I've had prior to this one has caused headaches...even a brand called "no headache visor".

I have the "cardigan" same fabric that goes with this and totally love it. That cardigan goes with me on every cruise. :)

I have a pair of Travelsmith black knit pants that I love and wear for all of our car traveling. We drive to all of our cruise embarkation ports and to WI to visit my kids and grandkids, so they get a lot of use and are starting to show it. :(

I am now searching for a replacement pair as Travelsmith has discontinued that style. My recent Travelsmith and LLBean purchases are ok but just not quite right.

Those high-tech travel / hiking pants that convert to shorts. They are cool in hot weather and warm enough in cool weather. They dry quickly so great if you're caught out in a sudden downpour, also easy to hand wash and dry overnight. They have useful pockets - many brands have a secure zip pocket. I've worn these as daywear on many trips where I'm out and about doing lots of sightseeing, and I'll be taking a pair on my cruise for shore days.

What are you favorite pieces of travel clothing and why?

I always wear the same thing when flying. I always wear a pair of comfy "skinny" jeans, a black top, and normally I wear an oversized boyfriend style cashmere grey sweater that goes with just about anything. The sweater has pockets (the picture below does not), is light weight, goes with everything, and pulls double duty as a pillow/blanket on the plane. On the cruise it is great to grab when walking outside.

On my feet I wear something I can slip on and off fast. Typically my Cole Hann flats that are crazy comfy. These are dressy enough or casual enough to go with a lot of things. I also wear a watch so I can go ahead and have my phone put away in my carry on bag. I wear a cheap statement necklace that I can take off quickly at security.

I always have to have a pair of cute flip flops that are pool appropriate. I found a pair with starfish from Off Broadway shoes last summer and Marshalls has had a good selection of Havaianas that are normally very expensive. The Havaianas are very comfortable. I also like to have a pair of cheap water shoes for walking in the water. My last pair came from Publix of all places.

I like to have at least two cotton cover-ups (Lands End and Target are normally where I check first) and two pairs of quick drying athletic shorts.

I wear lots of dresses on cruises and bring a few shrugs to cover my arms.

Hi,

We're on the same cruise, and I have absolutely no idea what to pack. I've been on 16 cruises, all in the Caribbean. I am a beach baby. Hope to meet ya. dulcimergirl.

I am looking forward to our cruise and meeting you. Our roll call is kind of active so please join us in our discussions. We were discussing what were going to pack just the other day. I have a basic idea, but will wait until I get the 10 day forecast so I can be sure of projected temps.

BTW, I couldn't find anything, bummer.

Then you're not looking in the right place;) Several brands make UPF & wicking convertible pants, including North Face, Columbia, Royal Robbins, Grammici, etc. Look at REI. Look at sierratradingpost.com. Look at campmor.com.

Look at the thrift stores ;-)

My husband and I have both owned many pairs over the years, and these are the places I've bought them.

These from Columbia are the last pair I owned - I lost weight and they were too big, haven't replaced yet. I do have a pair of the Silver Ridge capris though. http://www.columbia.com/Women%E2%80%99s-Silver-Ridge%E2%84%A2-Convertible-Pant/AL8002,default,pd.html

My recent travel favorites have been cold weather - Uniqlo heat tech long sleeve U neck t-shirt. Thin but warm - great under cashmere or cotton or even a button down, depending on outside temps.

Planning on trying their Airism shirts for cool/wicking this summer :D Last summer, fell in love with this Columbia dress (not sure this is the same, but closest I could find on the current website) I have it in black and cobalt blue (bought at the outlet on sale:p) Great for summer travel - quick dry!

My favorite piece of clothing for warmer weather is an white on white embroidered long sleeve blouse by Jones. I can dress it up or down, use as a lightweight jacket, wear with slacks, capris, skirt or over a dress or tank. I can fold and put in a tote as well.
