First Cruise - 1st Stop Grand Turk

This is our first cruise and our first stop is Grand Turk. What would you suggest for Excursions? Do we book one through Carnival or do we wait till we get off the ship and find something to do or for those who are avid cruisers are there things to do that don't require paying the high excursion fees? We also stop at Half Moon Cay and Nassau - we would like to lounge on the beaches and parasail - maybe sail on a Hobie Cat or ride on a Catamarin. Any and all help is APPRECIATED and VERY MUCH NEEDED -- thanks in advance,
