My wife and I will be heading to St Thomas next week aboard the NCL Escape! We live on a beach so beach'n just isn't in our best interest. We would rather escape the beach and find some area's to hike that are in a safe area. Anyone have any ideas where a good excursion would be for that!

Thanks!

On St Thomas it's the uphill nature trail at Magens Bay Beach. On St John there are the Lind Point and Caneel Hill trails which are readily accessible near the ferry dock on St John.

What more can you tell me about Magen's Uphill Trail?

Where is the Trail Head? Is it in the park and if so will it cost to get into the park and then on the trail?

How is the best and cheapest way to do this (i.e. cost/time for taxi to Trail Head, time hiking)?

Loop or out and back?

Does it end at the Beach so that you can take a dip afterwards :) ?

You only pay to enter the park.

It's hard to describe where the trail starts, because I have missed it more than once. If you google for a map of Magens Bay, there should be one that shows where the trail is, or maybe it's on Google maps.

Taxi will take you to Magens for about $8-10 per person each way. All the taxis drop off in same area, so you'll be hiking up the hill away from the beach. You hike back down to the beach afterwards.

The round trip hike should take a little over an hour or less if you're really fit. Half hour to get to Magens.
