Bus Ride between Cabo San Lucas & San Jose del Cabo

Has anyone taken the bus from Cabo San Lucas to San Jose del Cabo RECENTLY? How long does it take? How much does it cost? Do they take DOLLARS on the bus?

I've never taken the local buses in Cabo...but, from what I understand, it takes about 35-45 minutes between the towns by bus...and costs around $2.50-$3.00 per person each way...Word is that they do take US Dollars...but not officially. What happens is that the bus driver gives you a very poor exchange rate and rounds up. He then takes the US Dollars to the bank and converts them to pesos for a favorable exchange rate...and puts the correct amount of pesos into the pot, thereby making a little personal profit on the transaction. But, yes, if you want to avoid changing currency, that small "premium" may still be worth your trouble.

The other thing to watch for is that, during normal commuting hours, these buses get quite packed...

Remember, also, that the buses stop running around 9:00-9:30 pm.

Good luck...

Yes correct the driver may accept US$ and charge a bit more due the exchange, but he has to go to the bank in his free time with those US$ and often lines at banks are rather long. So he does the passengers a favor by accepting US$, not realy by being better of himself. That is why not all drivers will accept US$.

The trip will take you min 1 hr each way. The bus will make a couple stops along the way. Straight drive time by car one way is 35 -45 min. As mentioned here, the driver will take US $$, but it's far easier to pay in pesos. You can get pesos at any bank ATM in downtown Cabo.

Once in SJD (San Jose Del Cabo), you can go to the downtown area and look around the shops and galleries. The new SJD Marina is beautiful too, but it's another 10 - 15 minutes outside of downtown SJD.

We love SJD and for relaxing and just enjoying a slower pace, SJD is the place to be. The beaches there are not swimmable as most are on the Pacific Ocean side and there's a strong undertow rip current. The shore line drops off really fast on these beaches (50 yards from the sand and it drops off into very deep water).

Cabo is a party city with a faster pace and more exciting things to do. SJD rolls up the sidewalks at 9:30 PM.

Whichever you chose, Cabo or SJD, have a GREAT time!
