Choozin Croozin Posted February 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Am I to assume that cruise lines do not allow you to lock your luggage just like the airlines? If not that what do people do to keep your belongings safe when they are dropped off and taken to your room on arrival and when they are set outside your door the night before departure? jackel101 Posted February 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2005 I have always locked my luggage when setting it out at night.
kadeycat Posted February 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2005 We always use the zip ties to hook the zippers together or to the cloth tabs. Just be sure to tuck a small pair of clippers into an outside pocket. They always have worked and we can tell if the bags have been opened. Easy for airline personnel or baggage handlers to clip if the luggage gets mis-directed.
jnc411 Posted February 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Hi, if you will have access to your bags between airport and cruise port then you can put locks on your luggage before you hand them over at the cruise port. And we always put locks on our luggage when we put them out in the hall the last night of cruise. For locking our luggage at airports we use the cable ties like the previous poster stated and a nail clipper in an out side pocket so you can cut the ties. The airlines have no problem with the cable ties, if they want to check your luggage they just cut the ties. Cori
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 9, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Until about a year ago, we used the cable ties on the air planes, then switched to the regular locks for embarking and disembarking the ship. Now we use the new TSA locks. Haven't had any problems with them yet.
Cotton Posted February 9, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Don't know about other lines, but Carnival says: "Be sure your luggage is locked before leaving with porters at the dock when embarking. Also, when placing luggage outside cabins the night before departure, be sure it is locked." Lots of folks use the little plastic locking tabs - I use my luggage keys, and have never had a problem. mr green Posted February 9, 2005 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2005 If not that what do people do to keep your belongings safe when they are dropped off and taken to your room on arrival and when they are set outside your door the night before departure? Its the new form of 'tipping'. In lieu of a gratuity, members of the staff are invited to help themselves. Its a 'win win' situation, since you will not strain yourself, when leaving, and going through customs is a breeze. :D john taylor
