Default Suggestions for cabin selection on Amsterdam

Hello. What selection suggestions would you make for a balcony cabin for Amsterdam's February 2014 cruise from Sydney to Cape Town and possibly on to Fort Lauderdale please?

Ofcourse I tend to lean towards the Deluxe Verandah Suites but that can be a little pricey. My next choice would be an A Verandah Suite, nice size cabins.

Pick a cabin in the middle of the ship if you have motion sickness problems, less movement there.

Our first choice would be an inside cabin Cat. J lower promonade deck and our 2nd would be a Cat. K main deck, both midship to try avoid motion sickness problems. Very affordable and we feel nice size cabins. Whichever you choose have a great cruise.

I agree with Melodie for a balcony cabin.

A is midships and a good location if you have to worry about the motion of the ocean.

If you are not prone to motion sickness, then a B cabin forward would be a good choice.

Default Cabin Suggstions

Sounds like a long cruise with lots of continious at sea days so I think space would be a premium. There are no Superior's on the Amsterdam which is a nice option between a Verandah and Deluxe. We can't stay in anything without a balcony but the price is the determing factor and there is always a big difference between a Verandah and a Deluxe.

Like others have said get the middle of the ship since the route you are going on is known for rough seas

If you are interested in a deluxe suite, our preference is the Category SB which is at the aft end - there are about 4 on each side. They do not have tubs but have really large showers. And you have easy access out the aft door if you desire. Granted you are quite a distance from the Neptune Lounge which could be a drawback - but you are near the aft elevators.

The "A" category Veranda Suites on Deck 6 (Veranda Deck) midship are very conveniently located, and while not as large as the Deluxe Veranda Suites, they are ample for two people. But if I had it to do over again, I'd pick one on the port side, just aft of the midship elevators (6176-6188), so as to be over the Explorations Cafe (= library/coffee bar) rather than on the starboard, just ahead of the midship elevators. We were in 6163 on our cruise this past December, and we loved everything about it EXCEPT that every night, we could hear the piano player/singer in the Rembrandt Lounge directly below us, loud and clear, until he stopped playing. I'm pretty sure you would get much less noise overflow if you were positioned over the Explorations Cafe.

My sister and I stayed in 6178 for our 14 day cruise to Alaska last August. We really liked the location. We had quick access to almost everywhere.

I'm booked in a Verandah Suite on Deck 6 and haven't been on this Class Ship before. By any chance do you have a picture of the room you could post? Also, does the room have a mini-fridge and are there two chairs and a table or a chair, table and lounger on the Balcony?

Would appreciate any pictures of the room and balcony if anyone can post them!

Thanks!

Sorry, I didn't take any cabin photos this trip. But if you go to the link below, there are some photos of B6118 on Amsterdam which will give you a very good idea of what the A cabins on deck 6 are like (B cabins are essentially the same, just farther away from midship).

Yes, all veranda rooms have a mini-fridge (cooler - not as cold as a real fridge). Balcony has one sitting-up chair, one small round table, and one lounge chair.

Hey Jenn!

It's Marybeth from New Jersey!! We cruised together on the Emerald Princess! Are you bringing the kids with you? If so, I'd go for the bigger cabin if you're all staying together and crossing the big blue can get a little rough, so perhaps a mid-height, mid-ships would work best. Whatever you choose.... BON VOYAGE!

Marybeth.

Thanks so much for the link and the info! The room looks very nice and so good to see an actual picture!

Appreciate it!

Default Veranda Cabin 6103

We had cabin 6103 on the Amsterdam last month. It is the next to the last Vernda forward on the starboard side. I would never book another cabin this far forward on a ship because it was a long.....long way to everything like the Lido and Dining Room. Also the cabin was directly over the Showroom and it was quite loud anytime anything was going on in the showroom. As a side note, the shower drain in this cabin was extremely slow, probably due to it's forward location in the system?

Thanks everyone for your wonderful help. At this stage we are just looking into cruises for the future.
Hi Marybeth - yes, I certainly remember you and it is lovely to hear from you. Sean is in the navy now and I don't think Corinne will be coming on our next xruise. Paul and I were supposed to be on our first ever cruise for just the two of us right now - around South America. Unfortunately, the cancer has decided to start progressing again and so we had to cancel. We are looking around for future cruises as it is great therapy to have something to look forward to.

Hello!

We're trying HAL for the first time. Taking the Noordam on and 11 day Carribbean. Hoping it lives up to our last beautiful trip on the Silhouette. Sounds like Paul and the kids are doing well. Saw the pics of your renovations in your news letter. Pool looks great! I'm very sorry to hear about your relapse, but if anyone can beat it- it's you, with the support of your wonderful family. Take care and enjoy the HAL cruise. Looking forward to reading your review!

Marybeth
