Is port canaveral getting Allure or Oasis?

When the new terminal is completed, possibly as soon as the summer of 2012, Canaveral Port Authority CEO J. Stanley Payne hopes to extend the port's deal with Carnival by signing a five-year or longer contract.

Port commissioners on Wednesday also approved a $34 million project to build berths at the new terminal as well as at an existing one, Cruise Terminal No. 10, and carry out dredging that will help the port accommodate the largest cruise ships.

Does this mean that RCCL is considering moving Allure or Oasis to PC?

Probably not. I believe they've inked a long-term deal with Port Everglades. Port Canaveral is, however, an emergency back-up port for these ships in case Everglades is closed, hence it needs to be able to accomodate the shi

I don't know, RCCL has a pretty nice setup in Port Everglades - an International airport 5-minutes away and a Terminal that is as efficient as they get. Unless it's strictly about money, why mess-up a good thing. Just because the channel is deep enough, doesn't mean they come. If terminal 10 is the same terminal RCCL has been using for years, it's no Terminal 18. Perhaps a few years down the road PE may be looking to home port the Sunshine Class ships.

Just because they are making a contract with Carnival doesn't mean RCI will make the move as well. Have they announced where the newest ship will be out of in 2014 once it is completed?

I think you are reading much too much into this report. There are several good reasons to believe that Allure and Oasis will remain in FLL for the foreseeable future. First among them is the agreement that RCI made with Port Everglades officials when the new terminal was constructed to specifications designed to meet the requirements of Allure and Oasis. They are committed to sail a large number of passengers out of there every year, a commitment that would be more difficult to achieve if either Oasis or Allure were moved elsewhere. In addition their experience in FLL has been more than satisfactory and the proximity to a major airport is a great advantage that Port Everglades has over Port Canaveral. Canaveral also does not offer any advantages over Port Everglades as far as proximity to any likely cruise destinations.

When more details about the Sunshine Project ships are announced, there might be some reason to expect them to base at least one in Port Canaveral, but it is too early to bet any substantial sum on that happening.
