Sharm el Shek independently

We are looking for suggestions on what to do, for a lazy day in Sharm el Shek.

We don't want to do an organized tour but like the idea of just taking a cab to the town or Naama Bay and walking around plus relaxing on beach. We are not snorkellers but enjoy being by the water. Are there public beaches? Which area do you recommend for shops/restaurants?

We took a cab to the Hyatt, bought a one day pass, and spent the day there. It was wonderful. The beach was gorgeous and the facilities were terrific. It was one of our favorite days.
