Wooden Shoes

Recommended Posts

Nobody in the Netherlands wears wooden shoes on a daily basis anymore really, especially not in a big city such as Amsterdam. You will almost only be able to buy them in tourist shops. Most who make clogs in Holland, even if in a traditional way, do so mainly for tourists.

In case you get there, on Zaanse Schans, north of Amsterdam you have a choice of touristic and regular wooden shoes (klompen).

Often they also show how they are made.

You will not find anybody in cities who still wear them, but older farmers often do and of course in some villages they still sell them.

(even my kids had them when they were small, but then we live outside the city.)
