We have just come back from Italian Flavours. We did Malta diy on the Hop on-Hop off buses
http://www.city-sightseeing.com/tour...andingposition We bought tickets for €10.00 from some girls doing a promotion, as we left the port area, the tickets are normally €15.00
We did the blue route and the green route, preferred the blue as the green went through built up touristy areas. On the blue route we got off at Mdina, the ancient capital which was very good, and then caught the next bus.
Also if you turn right out of the port it's only a short walk to the Barrakka Lifhttp://www.visitmalta.com/en/upperbarrakkaliftt which takes you to the Upper Barrakka Gardens where they have a daily gun firing at midday, and from where there a very good views.

We also did diy in Trapani, Messina, Rome and Naples if you're interested.

Hi Queen Mandy.

This is what we did on the Italian Flavours.

Trapani

In the cruise terminal building there is a desk, where they sell tour tickets.
We wanted to go to Erice, so for €18pp we bought a return tickets by taxi/mini bus, including return tickets on the cable car, http://www.funiviaerice.it/indexeng.php
and a voucher for 2 delicious pastries from a patisserie in Erice. When we got to Erice there were tickets deals available to visit six historic buildings for €5.00. As far as I remember the Ship's tour is £33 but that includes entry to the historic building and a guide.
We shared with another couple from the Majesty and the taxi was waiting for us at the appointed time to take us back to the ship. We then had plenty of time to look around Trapani on our own.

Rome

We pre-booked a tour with Get Your Guide. There were other Majesty passengers on the tour and also quite a few from and NCL ship which was in port at the time. It included a tour of all the usual sights including skip the line tickets at the Vatican. We paid £60.00 and the equivalent Thomson tour was £79.00. We got back to the ship about 30 mins before the Thomson tour coaches. If I go again I'll book direct with Civita Tours and cut out the middle man.

Naples

We have been to the Amalfi Coast on a land based holiday so we were familiar with the area and have done Pompeii and Vesuvius previously.

We decided to take the service bus to Amalfi, from where we caught another bus to Sorrento, where we had stayed before. Here we had a drink and a superb pizza in the port. Bus tickets €4.10 pp. The total bus journey was 4 hours plus. There was no direct bus to Sorrento.
From Sorrento we took the hydrofoil back to Naples, where it stops near the ship. Hydrofoil journey 40 mins; tickets about €12 pp. Next time I would take the hydrofoil in both directions, but this time we would have to have waited for 2 hours for the next hydrofoil at 11.00am because we missed the 9.00am one.

Messina

We took a private taxi tour to Taomina which is a historic town with views of Mt Etna. Outside the cruise building there are taxis which offers various tours in the local area. The one we took was €30.00 pp in a taxi/people carrier for 4 or more. If there are only 2 of you it's best to arrange to share with another couple from the ship. We were back in plenty of time to do a tour of Messina on foot before returning to the ship for an early departure at 1.00pm.

If there are any follow-up questions don't hesitate to ask.
