We are cruising out of San Juan in October on the carnival liberty, we haven't decided yet so not much info is available. What airport does the plan land at, what are some of the best prices hotels close to our pier ( name of our pier)?

My mom wants to do the biobay and the rainforest has anyone booked those on your own precruise?

Thank you in advance for your help

For sure, you will fly into San Juan Luis Munoz Marin International.

Ok, you CAN fly to other places in San Juan, but they are pretty odd flights- for us to get to Ponce requires an overnight flight there.

All ships OTHER than Royal Caribbean or Celebruty sail from Old San Juan- there's a number of piers right there. It's the same place where all ships that are briefly staying there stop. (the RCCL ships are at Panamerican, but that's not important)

For hotels, you can stay in Old San Juan, the Condado, or Isla Verde- most of the hotels are in those areas. And, in order, that's closest to the ship to farthest. None are that far, but Old San Juan you can walk. We've stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan and el Convento (Old San Juan). Other that, with family on the other side of the island.

Can't help on the tours- we've visited both on our own. But not on cruise trips, but when we were there already. Both are really nice. If you can hike on your own, I'd suggest going to El Yunque on your own- it's an easy drive and nice to be on your own. Every time we've gone, its been after an 1 1/2 hour drive from Ponce- which limits the time you have to hike a lot.

You'll probably be sailing out of Pier 4 in Old San Juan. The airport is Luis Munoz east of the city.

The rainforest is easily accessible by about an hour's drive from OSJ. No excursion necessary, just stop off at El Portal (visitor's center) and pick up a map.

The biobay is located in Fajardo, east of the rainforest, and is an evening excursion. If you don't want a long drive back to OSJ at night you could book a hotel in the Fajardo/Luquillo area. The Fajardo Inn is moderately priced. The rainforest is also closer to this area. Biobay should cost $40-50. Rainforest $3 for El Portal, or nothing if you skip it.

As others have stated, you can rent a car and drive to the rainforest and Fajardo. If you like the idea of a tour guide, we have used Ellis twice and plan on using him again next year for a day. This is one of the tours he offers, rainforest, bio bay and beach. He has several others listed on Craigslist. He is also on Facebook (Tours with Ellis-see the real puerto rico) He is great about customizing your tour if you want to include something not listed.
