Default Would you tell a first time cruiser to do the Fun Tour?

We had been on three cruises, and read Cruise Confidential before we took the behind the Fun Tour-and we thought it was fascinating! We are taking newbies on our next cruise=should we suggest the tour to them, or do you think it will take away from the magic? And do you think I should lend them my book?

I think they would probably enjoy it. Wish I had done it on my first cruise.

Recommend it! I cruised a few times before reading Cruise Confidential which I really enjoyed but the Behind the Fun tour really helps to put everything back in perspective and is very interesting.

Personally, I feel that the Behind the Fun Tour is one of the very best excursions offered!!!

By all means, suggest it. I don't think it takes any of the magic away, it only enhances it.

I'm going to be in the minority here. The tour is expensive and while some parts of it are interesting, I think the time would be better spent exploring all the hidden but public parts of the ship. Go in search of the ships coin, find all the secret decks, visit every lounge and shop, talk with the crew.

Also, Cruise Confidential is such a sensationalized account of life on board and behind the scenes that I think it gives an unrealistic impression of what cruising is all about, especially from the guest perspective.

If you want them to have an informative and unique experience (and free) seek out the Maitre' D, Hotel Director, Cruise Director, Chief Engineer and Captain during their public time and have a conversation with them about their career and life on the ship and at sea. They love to talk with truely interested passengers.

If this is their first cruise, there are so many things they can do. However, if they are interested in the inner workings of things, then suggest it. Nothing wrong with offering a suggestion!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure that I would have appreciated it on my first cruise, because I was in such AWE of everything! But it was a 3 day cruise, not a 5 day cruise.

I think you just answered your own question. I think they'll have plenty to soak in on their first cruise. Most likely they'll want to return and I'd guess Behind The Fun would be better appreciated on a later cruise.

I'm going with the folks who say don't do it the first time. Don't get me wrong, we loved the tour. And we're boat geeks, so it's right up our alley. However, I think it's better to experience the first cruise "on the surface," as it were. On our first cruise there were so many passenger areas we never even saw - never found them until the second cruise on that ship.
