Do Fijian shops in tourist areas insist on Fijian dollars only for purchases?

We used US dollars in the tourist areas.

You can use AUD or USD but tey will not give a good exchange rate. ANZ and Westpac have ATM machines al over the place and you can use your Aus cards with no charges if you are an ANZ or Westpac customer. You can use other cards but you may get charged 5FJD or so to use the machine, check with your bank if they have a fee free arrangement with other banks' machines.
