Anyone done non-certified dive in Barbados?

Will be in Barbados 12/3/07 with Crown Princess & wondered if "learning to scuba" was worth it. Looks like there is some pool time then a boat ride to a dive site. How deep is the dive and how long? Also looked at a similar trip in St Thomas (I think) but looked like their dive was going in off the beach. Any thoughts or recommendations will greatly be appreciated.

and wondered if "learning to scuba" was worth it. ===> It's worth it!

Looks like there is some pool time then a boat ride to a dive site. ===> Yes.

How deep is the dive ===> 15-20ft. -and how long? ===> about 45mins.-1hr.

Are you already somewhat water-worthy? - that helps a lot!

By 'water-worthy' I mean can you snorkel proficiently??

Do you own your own mask and snorkel(attached to ea. other)?

your own fins?

All this helps, and if you do own your own basic gear, please do walk with it,

since it's always a big advantage to be that much more familiar with your own stuff

that's already been adjusted to fit well:

- since you will have sorted out those bugs already.

Tourists are taken thru a one-hour(approx.) crash course in the pool,

to make them water-worthy for a shallow dive later on.

For interested but non-certified people who want to experience Scuba,

Haroon will put you thru the pool bit, and then dive you on the wreck of the BERWYN,

in about 15-20ft. depth. You'll love it: everyone does.

Haroon Degia, at THE DIVE SHOP,

located beachside at Grand Barbados Hotel(used to be Holiday Inn),

right on beautiful Carlisle Bay, the hotel's pool is right there next to the dive shack,

Berwyn is a 5 min. boat ride away(literally).

Cost U.S. $70, for pool training and the dive soon after.

Taxi fare from Bridgetown Port to Grand Barbados?

..around $10 US money,I should think, but don't quote me on that.

Telephone number at The Dive Shop is (246)-426-9947

so give him a ring the week before you leave and set it all up!
