Rental Car, paying question at IAH. URGENT

Hi, Next week I will go to Houston and I will rent a car but because problems of my credit card I canot use it, so because I need a number a familiar is going to lend me his card, but only the number, so when I get there I will pay in cash the hotel. I dont know if is possible for cars, so my question is: If I have a credit card number for the reservation when I get there can I pay in cash. Thanks.

We tried to pay for a rental car in cash years ago in Indiana. They let us pay the fare, but we still had to have the number in case we crashed the car. I would call the company to make sure you can.
