dining together - classic cabins

I am experiencing a bit of difficulty with the dining on costa. we are in classic cabins, and knew that we could not choose our dining time. I was advised by them before we booked, that we could still link our two bookings together in order to be seated at the same table, at whatever time they decided to allocate us to. now I am told this is not possible. Has anyone else experienced this same problem, and how did they resolve it. and before anyone says why not just pay the little upgrade cost and have a premium cabins, we did not have that option as they were all sold out. if we had thought we might not be able to dine together we might have thought again about booking. we have had premium cabins before so this has not arisen.

This happened to us on our last cruise in March, even though we were in a premium cabin as was DD with family. Both cabins linked on the booking form, but on the first night we were seated at separate tables. After dinner I had a quiet word with the Maitre 'D, who immediately linked the cabins and said we would received notfication in our cabin the next day with our new assigned table.

Sure enough, next day there was a note in the cabin with our new table.

well its good to know that there might be the facility for the maître d to juggle things. apparently, the costs 'system' is not able to link bookings in classic cabins for any reason, they tell me it simply is not possible. presumably the maître d is able to over-ride this once on board. we were well aware that the classic cabin did not allow a choice of dining time, which was fine, but it was a little annoying to be told, by their customer service, that linking would be fine in order for the four of us to sit together, at whatever time they chose for us. when you book something, on the basis of information given, and then find that information was not correct, we're not happy with that. not that theres anything we can do, computer says nooooo, so there we are. lets hope the maître d is in a good mood on the day.

We always have 2 cabins, the way we book them its not a family booking, its 2 separate cabins (works out cheaper if you plan!!!). Usually have premium cabins but last year could only get classic cabins.

They were linked, we were booked on the same table. Trouble was it was late sitting and we like early....but we swapped the next day.

It may be because we book with Italian travel agent, not here in UK, they do seem to be able to do more and cheaper! First time this year we have 200 euro cabin credit! Never saw it on the UK booking sites.

Haven't seen that many table for two, it's more efficient for the waiters to serve large tables.

But you can certainly try to get a table for two, try to board early and if available have lunch in MDR and then try your luck with MDR (try to catch one who is on a computer).

Have a great cruise.

Last sentence should have read:

"But you can certainly try to get a table for two, try to board early and if available have lunch in MDR and then try your luck with a Maitre 'D (try to catch one who is on a computer)."
