Let's put this into another perspective...

Carnival's inside cabins are 185sf (no need for further comment from the person claiming they're actually only 150sf...)

Many of Royal Caribbean's inside cabins are 119sf.

Quite honestly, I'd feel less claustrophobic with 5 in a Carnival cabin than I would with 3 in an RCI cabin. Yet I bet nobody blinks an eye at the thought of putting 3 guests in an RCI cabin (and they pay close to double the Carnival price for it).

Good perspective...I didn't know RCI's inside cabins were that small.

We had five once and will do it again. Their isn't much floor room but it was fine. We spend very little time in a cabin anyway.

There not. Pretty much 145 sq ft inside but it depends on the ship. Last time I said most of Carnival inside and OV were 185 sq ft I got roasted. I guess they don't know what MOST means.

TWO ships only have insides that size.. the oldest two ships.. no other RCL ships have insides that small. Thats hardy "many"

There used to be more of these older ships, but they sold all but the last two, Majesty and Monarch I think are the two left with small cabins.

The other ships, have cabins much the size of Carnivals. Balconys and up are usually larger than Carnival's.

And I have NEVER EVER paid double on RCL. I look for the best deals.

Please .. lets stick to facts if you are going to post, rather than confuse the issue. If you have not been on RCL except the oldest ships, you cant make such sweeping comments.

This is probably the last "big" trip as they will go offf to college and marry. But they know we are "squeezed into" room 6333 and we outside of sleeping and throwing clothes on we aren't in the room.

I pay to cruise - not to hang in my tiny but mighty room

Enjoy your family...that's why u had them.

I love my family and I enjoy being with them but I'm a claustrophobic introvert. I need my alone time to recharge. If I stayed in an inside cabin with five people, I.would.lose.my.mind.

OP you have a good attitude and you know what you can handle.

Well it is true, that OVs on Conquest Destiny class, Triumph class, Conquest class, Splendor class and Dream class are 220 s.f.... so I guess Im one who doesnt understand the word MOST too.

to me MOST means more than half at the least.

Default Triumph OceanView 5 people

We had connecting Staterooms with Oceanview on Triumph.
2 adults in one room and 3 adults +2 children in another. The reason we got connecting is because we were afraid it would be too cramped. IT WAS NOT! We Did FINE with 5 in a room. Granted it was 3 adults and 2 small girls but it did not feel cramped. We had a wonderful time. However, our room was defiantly larger than my Sister-in laws that was an interior down the hall.

There is NO possible way this can be enjoyable, I'm sorry to say. We like to go back to the cabin a couple of times, throughout the day, just to recharge, or sit on the balcony, watch tv, etc. I am claustrophobic just LOOKING at this It's just 3 of us, and there was barely enough room for our clothes and suitcases, in a BALCONY room. To each their own, but this would NOT work for me.

WOW! The room steward should ask for a raise to have to deal with this!

We did OK with three in a balcony room. This time around we are all fighting over who is going to get the couch. That is the most comfortable spot.

We just did 5 in a quad cabin on the 8 day Breeze. Boys are 4, 6, and 7. Of course you can not book this way but on paper the 7 year old was in my brother's cabin.

When we booked it was $669 for 1st/2nd and $219 for 3rd/4th (plus tax and tips of course). So it was $1,995 if we booked 1 cabin and $2,895 if we did 2 (with price drops we ended up paying less).

One issue was that the 7 year old had a different muster station than us on his card and on the Camp Carnival master list. But when you go to the muster drill Carnival put's a muster wrist band on every one under 12. Because he came with us to the drill he got a wrist band for our muster station so that made us much more comfortable.

Sleeping was fine. Usually my wife went to bed with the kids and I stayed out a little later with other members of our group. They played musical chairs with the beds, so when I came to bed there was either a spot for me in one of the bunks or on the King with my wife and the 4 year old. Absolutely wasn't an issue. Everyone slept great.

And the King was fine if my wife and I needed a nap while the kids were in Camp.

At some point our cabin steward must have figured out that we had 5 in there. But he didn't say anything. If Carnival had forced us to move the eldest into the cabin he was booked in my brother would not have been impressed (they don't have kids so it was just the 2 of them).

I believe the insides on Royal Explorer and Carnival Breeze are about the same size. But on the Explorer we had an entire sitting area with a couch between the bed and the bathroom. On the Breeze there was maybe 2 feet between the foot of the bed and the desk. And then there was the hallway to the bathroom. You couldn't turn around without knocking someone else over.

I still can't figure out how they got the sitting area into the Explorer. That would have been so much better.

Things worked OK the first couple of days (with luggage under the bed we were in good shape). The kids were still a bit intimidated by the ship and the new surroundings.

By the 3rd full day they were in full comfort mode. And on an adrenaline high from the unceasing stimulation. This was also the beginning of 3 consecutive sea days. We were waking them up at 6:45 and they were getting to bed late so they were overtired. After we got them to bed we would pack for the next day's excursion while trying to keep our voices quiet and the lights low.

Basically we lost all control of the cabin during the sea days and never really recovered. You couldn't move with the 5 of us in there. So we would put the 3 kids on the King and put on the cartoon network. We got ourselves dressed and then helped them get dressed on the bed. Not ideal but we got through it.

It was a true adventure we'll always remember. We did get frustrated in the cabin at times but all was forgotten the moment we were at dinner, the water park, the 5D theatre, ropes course, etc.

We would do it again in a heartbeat. The extra $900 may well have prevented us from booking the vacation.

So if the extra money is a big factor for you then say go for it. I realize that most people aren't part of a group where they can book kids in someone else's cabin. So my post really only relates to the grandfathered ships where you can still book 5 in a standard size cabin.

I can't imagine fitting a rollaway into a standard cabin but I haven't seen the layout of those rooms. If your kids are young enough I would suggest 3 of them in the King and the adults in the uppers.

Good luck!

Think twice about putting small children in the upper beds. Would not be a pretty sight if one fell out.

Lets put it this way...
I was on NCL in an ocean view a couple years ago, and there were five of us in there. NCL's OV is smaller than Carnival's I believe. We had my parents on the bottom with the beds pulled together, my brother and I on the beds that come out from the wall, and my elderly grandmother on the pull out chair thing. NEVER AGAIN. My cousins, who were just down the wall, did the same thing. Aunt and uncle in the two beds, cousins up top, and their grandmother in the chair. Horrible experience. Although, I was the one staying out all hours of the night, so I really didn't care. It was so much nicer on Carnival in an OV with only my grandma and I. Now, I'm planning another one, and if you put 3 people in an interior, and with my past guest rate, you can get two beds, a couch, and a porthole (yippee!)

We did 4 to a cabin for years with the boys (one being 6 ft tall) without issue on the smaller ships.

However, I would not think that 5 people would be comfortable.....

they pull a trunnel out from under the beds which would take up floor space at night....

Also I found the Spirit Class ships interior cabins to be cramped with just 3 people (where the Fantasy class ~ a smaller ship~ interiors did just fine with 4 people.
