For Pescado Amarillo, disembark FLL

Hi Jeannie,

We disembarked this morning....all went quite smoothly. We did the EZ check, so were in the group leaving just after the self-disembarkation crowd. We were to be in the Casino at 7:30 am. As it was looking like an very early departure, we decided to bypass the Elite lounge and just cool our heels in the casino for that brief time period. The gangways were on deck 6. They released us at just after 7:45, we were off the ship about 6 minutes later, through ICE in another 6 or 7, took a few minutes walking to the "cab stand" - new location - plenty of cabs. In one in less than a minute, and off to the FLL airport after we figured out which language we needed to speak to the driver in - whole 'nother story there. Anyway, we were at the airport before 8:30 and the lines for baggage check were only about 6 deep at the curbside stands, not too bad inside, but we didn't have to bother with either. It took about 8 minutes to get through security - not bad at all, but it certainly had the potential for a bad backup later on in the morning.

But to address your concerns about the cab situation - early off the ship - not an issue today. Hope it remains the same.

There were at least 4 ships in, including Oasis, could have been more but we didn't really have a chance to count and make sure we spotted every one.

We could have made a 10 am flight with ease, but of course, we are such chickens we don't like to book before 11:30. That was the earliest flight one could have to do the EZ check. And our luggage did make it home....now to unpack.:p

Maybe I will call room service first for some cookies and milk to ease the pain.....no answer. The help around here is so unreliable. They are probably out partying or something. Boy, they better be in early enough to make the bed in the morning.:)

Hope this info helps.....hugs.

Thanks, Ginger, and welcome back! We ended up booking an 11:35a connecting flight through Houston (DH won't connect through northern airports during the winter, feeling, I guess, that we're using all our luck just getting in/out of Denver). There was a non-stop at 11a, but we were wary... Luckily, we'll be on Southwest, and changes, if necessary, don't require one's firstborn in exchange. I think we'll just get an early disembarkation time and try to beat the mob at FLL.

How was the Crown? Looking forward to reading your thoughts. And Happy Hannukah wishes to you and Wes!

Thanks for the info! We have late morning flights and are hoping the cab situation is as good for us as it was for you. After leaving the luggage area, which way was the taxi stand?

There are signs, and plenty of people around to point you in the right direction. Upon exiting the building, it's a left, then another left, and half way down the length of the building a right and a walk past the busses.

Thanks Jeannie - Happy Hannukah to you as well. I think you will be fine with the flight you booked as long as you take advantage of the opportunity to disembark as early as possible.

We had a great cruise - the water temp in the Lotus Spa Pool was perfect. The service in the anytime dining room for all 3 meals was usually pretty bad. There was a chef with a heavy hand on the salt shaker. Other than that - really relaxing and wonderful!

Thanks again, for directions to the taxi stand. We are on the same Crown sailing as Jeannie. Our flight is at 11:52 so we are not too worried. Our daughter's flight leaves at 10:48 so we are more concerned about her making it on time. My goal: Use express disembarkation and worry about any problems after they arise instead of stressing over what might happen. :D

I keep hearing that about the Crown. Did you do your "table for 2" thing again? It's sad when service for just two people can't be efficient.

Most of the tables for two are in a row near each other, separated by less than a foot. When people are seated at the tables at a ranfom time, the waitstaff which will sevice a number of these tables will have some people studying the menus, some eating the appetizers, some eating the main course, some eating dessert, and dome enjoying a final coffee.

Not near as efficient to service this mix as when the waitstaff in traditional dining has everybody at about the same point in the meal.

In anytime, four tables for two can easily be at four different meal stages while a single table for eight will have everyone at the table at the same point in the meal service.

Sometimes for two, sometimes shared table. It didn't make a whole lot of difference. Breakfast service the first half of the cruise was abyssimal either way. The waiters make the tables for 2 tables for 8, so even if we were only fruit and an "entree" we had to wait through cereal courses, and if someone placed a special order it delayed it further. Wes waited an hour for two fried eggs....at a table for 8. I couldn't wait for the meal to arrive, so I left after 45 minutes to go move my laundry to the dryer....

We had one perfectly delightful breakfast in the dining room on Friday. Instead of waiting 20 min for a pot of tea, and having to ask again, it was there in less than 2 minutes. Let's just say I was wowed by that, and the rest of the service was friendly, but efficient.

Lunch - no one ever asked if I wanted another iced tea when removing the first, same thing about sitting through the "courses" of neighboring tables.

Dinner - a new level of surliness and indifference on several nights, table for two became table for eight several times, etc. We had a table for 4 twice with people we met on board, so we didn't notice the delays in service. The last evening we celebrated Wes's brithday, the dining room wasn't very full, and we were chatting over coffee and tea when one head waiter said people we waiting for our table and asked us to leave. We were appalled. It was 8 pm, not 8:15 or 8:30.....there we plenty of other tables around, so even if someone had this table every evening that should not have happened. We have had to wait for "our table" in anytime dining on occasion. Wes, who is usually so low key about things, was compelled to write a dissertation concerning this incident. I don't blame him. It was just inexcusably rude.

That being said, while dining room service was annoying, and someone had a heavy hand with the salt shaker, we had a wonderful time. Enjoyed the trivia, caught some entertainment, and really relaxed alot.

Bon Voyage - have a wonderful time, wish we were joining you!

Ginger
