Room service and to go food

Frank Del Rio did not sell Oceania and Regent - Apollo was the orchestrator of the entire deal (that may have been in the works for some time from what I've read).

The person that knows the "Renaissance" story in depth is "hondorner". Unfortunately, he was called names and may have left the board.

Oh hondorner, that is the guy that said the people who were against the new food policy were just slobs. If I remember correctly you posted back to him that you agreed that the slobs won this one. So hondorner may have left the boards because he felt insulted, BOO HOO well good riddance to him. Why don't you do the same. Especially since you have never even sailed NCL as you stated. The world was not created solely for you so get over it. You and your buddy "hondorner" have lost, now grow up and take your medicine like two adults. CYA!

No takeaway food = Dealbreaker

Kids unable to use kids club = Automatic Canceling

Dishes left in hallway = priceless

Suggest you do some research into the facts about Renaissance. What you think you know is not necessarily true (in fact, I know that it is not true). Instead of reading fiction, try looking at the successes of Oceania and Regent. There must be a reason that these cruise lines were worth $3+ billion dollars.

Not sailing on a ship and analyzing posts is a good idea. Additionally, many/most Cruise Critic members spend a lot of time on the boards before booking a cruise. The decision or whether or not to book is as least partially based on what they read. We ask questions -- we challenge -- we participate. It is unusual for newbies to be bashed, called names or be made fun of. This seems to be unique to NCL.

Your analogy of having never set foot on an NCL ship and your opinions is really really weird.

It's like someone who gives advice on horse riding although they've never ridden a horse in their life. But..they've read a lot about horse riding so they feel they can tell someone whose ridden their entire life what they're doing wrong.

Or maybe you stayed at a Holiday Inn last night and feel qualified.

And I have never seen plates on the floors in the hallways of premium or luxury cruise ships.

You've never seen plates on the floors of a Celebrity ship, Princess ship, HAL ship (those are Premium lines by definition), and are you seriously claiming to have never seen plates on the floors outside rooms on luxury lines? Sorry, but that's BS.

I agree completely with this statement. I also spent months here researching. One can learn a lot from research in all aspects of life. Personal experience isn't the only way to gather info and learn.

I wouldn't stay at that Holiday Inn unless I had researched it and formed an opinion. Just sayin'... It's logical to form opinions first. It's okay to share those opinions with others. That's kind of why we are here.

Agreed.

This poster feels they have some personal connection to Del Rio. Maybe they met him once at a meet and greet and are starry eyed over him, maybe he/she is a relative of Del Rio, who knows.

What is just weird - and troll like - is that someone would come to this discussion and others on the same subject matter and Defend to the T, Del Rio's latest and greatest New Rule without ever having stepped onto a NCL ship themselves.

And then call the NCL passengers slobs.

Okay - admit that I have not personally seen the trash, however, unless many posters are liars, this does exist on NCL ships. Many posters are so self-involved in their personal "wants" that they can not see the whole picture. Sometimes it takes an outsider to listen to what is being said and draw a conclusion in the hopes of opening the eyes of those whose eyes prefer to be shut.

Our first NCL cruise is this coming September, so we’ve been researching, a LOT. Funny thing is, we never saw a single mention of piles of plates and food in the hallways until it came out as the excuse for the takeout ban. And still, not one single person has posted one single photo of one single dirty dish in one single hallway. Interesting, no?

I am "buying into the story" that was NOT concocted by the "suits" in Miami to "cover their tracks" because I know that the CEO of NCL would absolutely never "concoct" anything. He is the most honest individual that I have ever met. He does not lie and speaks the truth (as he sees it). Even I do not always agree with his vision, however, he has run successful cruise lines for years and I have not.

Maybe he should get “his vision” checked, since he’s supposedly the one who wanted the cleanliness and piles of dishes in the hallways addressed. ;)

It would be great if any passenger on one of the larger NCL ships walked the entire ship two or three times - observing plates on the floor and thinking about how much effort it would/will be to continually be walking the ship to pick up plates. I look forward to learning what measures will be taken to curb not only the plates on the floor (even typing this grosses me out) and the food that is spilled on the carpeting in the hallways.

Now you’re just being obtuse. There are crew assigned to every section of every cabin area throughout the day already. Maybe NCL needs to chat with the higher ups at Disney, Royal, Celebrity, Princess, Carnival, etc. None of them appear to have any difficulty keeping their hallways cleared of food and dishes. Heck, we sailed to Freeport and back aboard the Grand Celebration over the holiday weekend and we didn’t even see dishes in the hallways on that ship… on a holiday weekend with loads of drunken revellers!!!

Yes, I call hogwash on the whole piles of dishes & food in the hallways thing. Otherwise we would have already cancelled our September cruise!

There’s still time though - if someone wants to prove to us that NCL ships are cluttered with dirty dishes and old and spilled food, we can still cancel. ;)

Okay. Your post I quoted specifically referred to his/her opinions (your word). So I thought we were talking about opinions. My bad.

I actually think its even worse if he really did it because of the dirty plates in the hallway. That's HIS CREWS job to remove them in a timely fashion. We the passengers shouldn't be punished if HIS CREW isn't doing their job. JMHO

Also if they want the plates to stay in the room then tell us. Put a note on room service tray or a note in the room-all dishes to stay in room not the hallway.

I am cracking up here. Photos of dirty dishes? Call me crazy, but I generally don't include those as part of my vacation albums. Who does?! That is so weird to me. If I saw dirty dishes and didn't take a picture, does that mean it didn't happen? Or does that mean I'm not a freak that thinks photos of dirty dishes belong in my vacation memories? LMAO!

With all the complain-and-get-something-for-free folks out there, there would most certainly be photos of piles of dirty dishes in the hallways impeding the way for wheelchairs, and smelling up the hallways and cabins.

But even the threads full of outraged folks here on CC complaining about the mess would serve as proof of this supposed issue.

Where are they?

Interesting comments since Del Rio calls them 'his ships". You are saying Del Rio is a puppet for Apollo.

Hondorner doesn't like to read statistics that I gleaned from sources he chooses to ignore.

I also believe the information filed with the SEC should be reliable, but both of you dispute those figures.

If you provide figures and sources to verify your claims, I may agree with you.

BTW -- It was Hondorner who called NCL guests SLOBS !!

Proof!!! There's another scream of proof!! It's supposed to be a freaking vacation, not a murder trial. People need to get over themselves.

My husband and I are cracking up. I honestly can't say whether or not there have been dirty dishes around in halls on our cruises. I'm too busy vacationing to sweat the small stuff that doesn't impact my life.

My point exactly.

Although you might want to get over yourself and reread what I posted. It was tongue in cheek.

I don't want or need proof, and I know that it doesn't exist anyhow. ;)

Having been on several cruises on different cruise lines I just, like many, except the fact that there are plates in the hallway (even though I don't like it). What's the point of complaining about it. With NCL's policy decision it became a subject to be discussed. Just because we didn't complain about it before did not mean that this problem never existed. And why on earth would I ever want to take pictures of people's dirty dishes???

Again, as I said on another thread. With multiple cameras in all ship hallways, it is easy to spot "filth, trays, plates, glasses, hazards". If the concern is for safety, then the camera would indicate there is a safety hazard, and then someone would need to be assigned to head out to the hall and clean it up.

Really! What is the point of making a claim that the halls are unattended. Every camera attends.

There have been plates in the hallways on everyone one of my cruises. Especially first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. A good thing, I've never see any trays/plates in the hallways when I return from dinner, maybe that is when people are taking pictures of the clean hallways. I'm not sure people really expect people to take pictures of disgusting things to show their friends back home, but I guess to each their own. What is amazing is people who have never been on a NCL cruise insisting that there are no plates/trays in the hallways and calling others liars.

I have only sailed on NCL once, but I have to say that I was appalled by the no carryout policy and did send NCL an email. How in the world do you tout a "freestyle" vacation and yet want to treat guests like children and police where they eat. I am very glad that people spoke out loudly because it would definitely have spread to other cruise lines if NCL could have made it stick. Great job to all those who posted, called, emailed and spoke out.

I am normally on the RCI boards, but I have to say that I have never seen anything like the few posters here, who without ever setting foot on a NCL cruise ship, feel that they know what is best for frequent NCL cruisers. It honestly boggles the mind that people who spoke out against the policy are called "Jeerleaders," "lazy," "slobs," "whiners," etc. Even worse, when people attempted to refute these labels, and point out that there is a right to protest an offensive policy and the absurdity of some of the comments defending the new policy and FDR, they are called "bullies."

This was truly a PR nightmare for NCL. Their explanation of the policy origins does not help. Management decisions are made on the fly after 1 person, tours 1 ship and supposedly sees plates everywhere and spills? The decision is made not to take their staff to task about cleaning more frequently, but instead to police your passengers. Sorry but I am not impressed with FDR or Andy Stuart because you should always put your best face forward to the public....not talk about how messy your ships are:rolleyes:.

Again, great job to all who spoke out!

I don't believe anyone has ever said there are "no" plates in the hallways.

The argument (attempt) that's been made is that there are piles of dishes and old food and spilled food making the hallways unpassable and unsafe.

Which is hogwash.

And my (tongue in cheek) photo request was to make that clear. Anyone with half a brain knows that if there had ever been such a plate & food safety issue, we would ALL have heard about it... right here on CC... with loads of photos and hundreds of angry posts.

I do find it amusing how those who made the "piles" claims are now backtracking and trying to twist the history of this discussion though. ;)
