Chocoholics Night

As nice as they are, most cruise lines have had serious challenges with the chocolate buffets.

Due to manpower shortage issues, no major cruise line can successfully put together the chocolate buffet and serve a meal at the same time.

So the buffet must wait until all the cooks and waiters have finished feeding you. That means it will happen very late - or very, very late.

If it happens just after dinner, many pax complain that they are already stuffed and cannot eat any more.

If it happens a bit later, the older guests complain that they cannot stay up so late, and parents complain that their kids had to stay up too late to get their chocolate.

If it does happen later, those who do eat the chocolate then complain that all the sugar and caffeine spoiled their sleep.

The new MLC2006 rules also make it very difficult for the cruise lines to schedule their culinary staff to work the extra hours required to put on the buffet. Scheduling those extra working hours can result in huge fines for the cruise lines when they are audited.

It looks as if the entire Chocolate Buffet idea will soon be extinct.
