The people I work with would probably not even recognize me when I am cruising. At work I am pretty much all business. On a cruise I like to let my hair down and have fun. A good example of it would be me screaming and yelling trying to get chosen for "Minute to Win it" I think I embarrassed my husband, but I did get chosen and had a blast.

I FEEL like a different person but I don't think I act any differently than I normally do. I think it's just vacation-me versus student-me.

I relax. I have a very hectic job with a lot of intercontinental travel in economy class (just traveled for 26 hours to Botswana and in 3 days I'll be doing it in reverse on my way back to uk). All our holidays are planned with military precision (I make itineraries which I issue (cringe) and which my husband's only response is :when do we get to relax and do nothing?")
But on a cruise I change and a cpt that things are outside my control and so I do relax. For me lots of sea days are best becuase either can't be getting everyone up to go and see this port or that port. Did a TA this summer on QM2 and it was total relaxation for me. Yes I did stuff but there was no "if we don't go and see this castle/ monastery/museum/view we might not get another chance".
Off to Caribbean on QM2 for Christmas and while I have read up on the ports there doesn't seem to be much that I will HAVE to see.

I'm definitely much different when I'm on a cruise, which is why I prefer to cruise alone!! I tend to be much more outgoing. I actually want to bring the cruise me to my every day life this year. I like me in general but I really like me when I'm on vacation lol

I found that I had an easier time approaching women. Not in a pick-up kind of way, but more like a friendly "Care to dance?" way, when there's a band or just good music. (I do quite a bit of classic dancing as a hobby.) Women also seemed to respond in kind: I rarely got turned down, and when I did, it was done very nicely. Don't know if something about a cruise makes them feel safer than in land-based clubs, or because most cruises have more single women than single men. But either way, it affected my cruise persona.

My wife and I tend to live it up on cruises, primarily because we normally know no one, except for a small number we may be traveling with.

We do old-time rock 'n' roll dancing and often, from around 4:30pm, dress up ready for the night. My wife wears 60's circle dresses and high heels. I wear black pants, dance shoes, braces, a tie and a trilby.

Because we're usually up at the break of dawn and stay up to 11:00pm to midnight, we take a 30 minute siesta most afternoons around 3:00pm. Then get up, shower, dress up and have an afternoon drink at whatever is our favourite bar/pub before dinner.

The funny thing this time is, we're not anonymous on this cruise! 16 family members are going. On top of that, by coincidence, another 11 friends are going. Not all of them will quite comprehend what this dressing up thing is all about. We know we're going to get some funny looks as they sit at nearby bars: Unshaven and wearing board shorts and T-shirts.

Cool Yes. . I'm different

I too feel like a different person. Much more relaxed and excited. . and grateful for the opportunity. I'm generally a pretty nice and polite person. But on a ship. . .I think I get a little more 'open'. I like to engage in conversation. . be more 'chit-chatty' with people. . get to know people. .find out where they are from. Especially if they have an accent different from mine. . .which doesn't feel like an accent at all to me!

Default We are totally different!

No responsibilities No schedules. Of course we're different. That's why we go! We dress up for every meal, not just formal nights. We talk to strangers. We hold hands, We have public displays of affection. We drink during the day. We have desert before dinner. No technology!! I'm so sad to see half the Lido deck staring into their phones. We never turn on the TV. It's great to be different!

I feel no need to be the boss that I am everyday, no need to control anything, no need to make decisions, except for deciding what kind of fun to have. I am the best of me on a cruise.
