What to do in Santa Barbara

We have a port stop in Santa Barbara in mid-October and are looking for things to do. I know there is a hop-on hop-off trolley. I know there are beaches if the weather is good. And I believe there are wineries. Any other ideas?

 

The advertised time for the port is 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., so realistically we have about 9 hours to blow, 8 to 5. Oh, and my wife likes to shop.
