The Captain for dinner

Recommended Posts

I was wondering does the CCL Captain eat in the MDR? If so is it every night or just formal night?

Who here has dined at the Captain's table? There has to be more than a few here on CC. Hehehe.

On Adventure OTS years ago he was in the MDR every night. It seemed to be made kind of a "show" with everyone looking and oohs and aahs. Seriously some people can't be taken out in public. Lol.:p

My husband and I along with our 2 older kids were on the Miracle doing the Alaska cruise last Aug. We were the only Diamond members on the whole cruise and we were invited to have dinner with the captain and all the officers in the MDR. It was like we were celebrities with people taking our pics from the balcony and coming up to him even during dinner. Very memorable experience.

The Captain and his senior staff have their own private dining room. Very rarely will you see any of them in the MDR. There only activity on Elegant evening is to stand in a M&G line prior to both fixed time meals, for picture taking.

I've yet to personally see a Captain or a Captain's table on Carnival.

I did see a captains table on RCCL, but it was empty every night. But we did dine with the headline entertainers. They had a table next to ours.

I've almost NEVER seen the Captain in the Main Dining Room, but having said that, I was privileged to dine with the Captain on a cruise, long, long ago. It was quite an experience, and I look back fondly on it.

I think the Captain has plenty to do, without worrying about dining with the passengers.

He does have a lot to do but dining with passengers is a nicety that I would love to do one day.

Agree, we would love it as well. I have seen them in the MDR from time to time, if that were a Diamond perk it would be pretty cool.

Wonder why they never charged for the privelege of dining with the capt?

They have figured out lots of other charges to fill up our account.

I prefer not to eat with the help.

Unless you can get something better than everyone else. We generally go to cocktail hours with the captain and his officers, as well as the cruise director, in a private party where they serve top shelf liquor and appetizers the probably serve on Cunard.

I never pass on those invites. No clue if the menu is different when you dine with the captain.

the dream last year we were invited to brunch with the captain and his senior officers because we were diamond status with one other couple. It was at the first large table as you entered the dining room. I thought about not attending but it was actually very enjoyable getting some very interesting facts about their jobs on the ship.

Years ago, my wife and I dined with the FANTASY's master, Captain Leonardo Francolla, and his officers. It was pretty cool.

Chief Engineer Luciano Tortorici took quite a shine to my wife.

Everyone in the group met in the library for drinks, then we were escorted to the dining room. When we got to the table, everyone remained standing, and then the captain and his officer's walked in and stood by their seats. After the captain welcomed everyone, we all sat down at the same time. Everything was quite proper. When it came time for the captain to make a toast, I saw him simply touch the rim of his glass...this was the signal for the officers to raise their glasses.

The next day, a complimentary photo of all of us was placed in our cabin with a note from the captain hand-written on the back. Very nice experience, indeed.

I understand that from time to time the capt will host a diamond lunch as the perk.

On our last cruise, we were given a private tour of the bridge courtesy of guest services (they were seriously the best!!!) and while we were there, they were setting up for a private tea with the captain and officers for Diamond members. :)

I see you joined the roll call for the Sunshine cruise we are sailing on together. Look forward to meeting up on a meet and greet.

Of the three diamond events we have been to once was a visit to the bridge with tea with the capt. Very enjoyable sitting and chatting with him.

We've been invited and have had lunch and dinner several times on Carnival with the Captain. This has been since we became Diamond. These have been very nice, not formal. On Royal, we have had some very elegant dinners with the Captain and Hotel Director acting as host. These were as Diamond and Diamond Plus. :) We always accept the invitations and enjoy the company! The Diamond Cocktail parties are great fun, too.

The Captain dined in the MDR one night during our June 1, 2015 Splendor repo cruise.

The Captain and his senior officers dined in the Golden Pearl, late sitting, one night during the Splendor 6/9/15 sailing. The table he dined at was not always in use every night and was right in the front of the dining room. Also, the CD, Hotel Director and 2 other officers dined almost every night in the Golden Pearl, late sitting, but in a 4-person booth (first one on the right hand side).
