Dolphin dive Roatan

We are booked on this dive in a couple weeks. It is a lot of money for us, but worth it if we really do get to see dolphins in the wild. Assuming they feed the same dolphins every day at the same place to keep them coming back, but wondering what happens if they don't show up. Since it is a straight down to the sandy bottom dive and wait, if they don't show, do they just say too bad so sad? Not worth the money for that for us. Any input from someone that has done that dive is appreciated!

The dolphins are free swimming but not what I would call "free". They live in a pen but are allowed to leave whenever they want. The 2 dolphins used in the dive follow the guide boat to the site.

Before the dive the do a show in the pen where you get to interact and learn about the dolphins. They then get you on the boat and take the short 5 Min trip to the dive site

During the dive there is a guide in the water with the divers that directs the dolphins as much as they can. On our dive they came and left as the chose but there was usually at least 1 of the 2 dolphins with the group. They swim around the group and you are allowed to touch them. Overall it was cool and would recomend it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Was this at AKR? I was in Roatan last May and went fishing with a couple of locals, as we trolled past the resort they told me few weeks prior a employees in a boat from AKR had asked them if they had seen an escaped dolphin. They said later they had heard the dolphin returned with a wild mate.
