lenquixote66 Posted September 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Every cruise that I have been on at some points has a "sale" of watches for $20. I am wondering if any people have bought a watch and if it worked longer than 2 years ?
Rare Waynetor Posted September 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2015 We do mostly B2B cruise. Twice I bought the cheap ones on Princess and they lasted less than a week - both with different problems with the band. I took them back and got a credit. klfrodo Posted September 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2015 $20 and works for 2 years? You got your monies worth No, I haven't bought a $20 watch on board. The high end watches advertised at 50% off can be bought cheaper from Amazon

The high end watches advertised at 50% off can be bought cheaper from Amazon This is extremely true. I will go to the shops to look and try on watches I'm interested in and then buy them from Amazon at a MUCH cheaper price (and free shipping) :) Ex: MK Watches on board retail for about $250-$350 (after the discounts) and on Amazon you can buy them for around $175-$275 (although you have to add tax). FLGIRLFORLIFE Posted September 8, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2015 I bought two, two years ago. One for me, one for my daughter. We don't wear them every day, in fact, I only wear mine maybe once a month..it's really pretty, I'm just not a huge jewelry person. My phone tells me what time it is..lol. But ours still work. DocF Posted September 8, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2015 I own several good to excellent watches that cost from $200 to$2500. I wear the Seiko railroad watch as it keeps excellent time and is truly waterproof. On some dress occasions, I wear my dressy watch that DW bought me that has some diamonds on the face. The third watch I wear is one I got at Walmart while my Seiko was in for repair. I paid $3.74, it is the best looking watch I have and keeps good time. I have bought watches on cruises for $10 or less. Usually this is when my cruise watch has failed and I need something. If it runs for a few weeks, I am happy. Rare Keith1010 Posted September 8, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 8, 2015 My most accurate watch is a timex sports watch. It's more than $20.00 but less than $35.00. Keith
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 8, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 8, 2015 A couple we were traveling with on one cruise, she bought a watch near the end of the cruise. By the time they got home, I got an e-mail from her saying that her $20 bargain watch was dead. And it wasn't the battery. Just watch for sales at home and get a good watch. GUT2407 Posted September 8, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 8, 2015 I've bought cruise watches that have been fine, one I'm still wearing 15 years later.

agabbymama Posted September 8, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 8, 2015 The only watch I have bought was not a $20 watch. In 2011 I had $100 NCL OBC on the last night of the cruise, so I bought a $99 Guess watch. It is still working fine 4 years later.

The definitive phrase "anyone else" was not included in the post. It appears nobody has ever done it. indigosails Posted September 8, 2015 #14 Share Posted September 8, 2015 I have bought the cheap-o "fashion" watches several times. They usually last until the battery runs out and I throw them away.
ger_77 Posted September 8, 2015 #15 Share Posted September 8, 2015 DH has purchased the $20 watches and been very pleased with them. The last one he bought lasted 6 years before it died. Smooth Sailing! :):):)
mr green Posted September 8, 2015 #16 Share Posted September 8, 2015 I have never brought one, at that price. Once however I got as far as picking one up to adjust the time, however the spindle came right out. There IS another side to the watch story however. On my cruise in 1997, I brought a beautiful, slim Wittnauer mans watch for $67.00, reduced from $100.00. Last week I went to get the battery changed, for the second time. 'Peoples' said that they could did not have the tool to get into it, so I went to our local jeweler. The gentleman looked at it, and said that he used to sell that watch years ago, and he asked were I had brought it. I told him and he said 'You stole it, its worth $450.00!!!' john
iheartbda Posted September 8, 2015 #17 Share Posted September 8, 2015 DH bought one by that famous designer, El Cheapo, at least 3 years ago for $10 and it's still working.
Grandma Dazzles Posted September 8, 2015 #18 Share Posted September 8, 2015 The only watch I need is my cel phone. Be careful then when traveling. Cell phone time usually adjusts to local time, not ship's time. Found it useful to have a watch set to ship's time. A lot of people who miss the ship and blame cell phone time. CRUISEWITHH Posted September 8, 2015 #19 Share Posted September 8, 2015 We bought 4 of the $20 watches on one of our cruises. They were for gifts, but when we got home, I tried to set one and it didn't even work. I returned them to Princess offices in Santa Clarita, CA and got my money back. Only problem was that I didn't have gifts for the people that I bought the watches for. They are really cheap quality. I would never buy them again. Dayenu Posted September 8, 2015 #20 Share Posted September 8, 2015 I bought watches for $10 long time ago, tossed them when the battery worn out. Now they are $20, and I didn't see with stretch band bracelet, so I stopped buying.

notentirelynormal Posted September 9, 2015 #23 Share Posted September 9, 2015 Not the cheap watch but back around 1980 my DH won half of the last day Bingo. He decided to treat himself with a watch. He still wears it today. The face finally needs to be replaced. I think he paid around $120. The best part of the story: my DD married a guy who has the same watch. The OP was asking about the $20 range. Obviously people can buy decent watches at other prices; both cheaper and dearer. It is the $20 ones which are no good, I tell you. Lol John
