Default Wine

Is wine allowed on Royal Caribbean? If not, what happens if brought in luggage?

RCI's policy recently changed & is now more in line with a lot of other cruise lines.
They permit taking aboard, at the embarkation port only, 2 bottles of wine per stateroom. These can be consumed in your stateroom (some consume in bars etc tho I don't think its actually permitted). Corkage fee if you consume in the dining venues.

If you carry excess aboard in your checked luggage, it may or may not escape their attention.
In original bottles, expect to be called to the naughty room, profess your ignorance of the rules, & have it confiscated til the end of the cruise.
If concealed - eg rum-runners or coke bottles - then clearly this is deliberate smuggling & likely it'll be poured away. They have the right to put you off the ship, I've heard very second-hand of this happening on one or two occasions but don't know if it's true or an urban myth - perhaps spread to dissuade folk from trying.

At ports-of-call, bags are screened. I don't think they're too concerned about explosives, drugs, guns, swords, illegal immigrants, ground-to-air missiles, etc but all alcohol will be taken from you & you can collect at the end of your cruise.

Each cruise line sets their own rules for things like bringing wine onboard. You will get better info if you post this on the RCI section.

If they changed their policy it must be very, very recent because as of today their FAQ page still has all beverages as being prohibited at boarding.

from http://www.royalcaribbean.com/before.../whatToPack.do
"What Not To Pack
Weapons, illegal drugs, and other items that could interfere with the safe operation of the ship or the safe and secure environment of our guests and crew are prohibited. The United States Transportation Security Administration also recommends that you do not pack fragile or expensive items (such as jewelry) in checked luggage.
The following are examples of items that guests are not allowed to bring onboard. These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, flammable liquids, explosives, and dangerous chemicals will not be returned.
Firearms & Ammunition, including realistic replicas.
*Sharp Objects, including knives and scissors.
Illegal Drugs & Substances
Candles & Incense
Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, & Hot Plates
Baseball Bats, Hockey Sticks, Cricket Bats, Bows & Arrows
Skateboards & Surfboards
Martial Arts Gear
Self-Defense Gear, including handcuffs, pepper spray, night sticks.
Flammable Liquids and Explosives, including lighter fluid and fireworks.
HAM Radios
Dangerous Chemicals, including bleach and paint.
**Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages
Note:

*Personal grooming items such as safety razors are allowed. Scissors with blade length less than 4 inches are allowed.
** Alcoholic beverages that are purchased in ports-of-call or from shops onboard will be stored by the ship and delivered to you on the last day of the sailing. Alcoholic beverages seized on embarkation day will not be returned."

Announced 6th Nov, with immediate effect.

Don't want to start a war between CC and RCI, but one of 'em is wrong.

No personal experience, haven't sailed RCI in the past coupla months, but this thread on the RCI board rather suggests RCI's website is out-of-date
