Young Lesbian couple - Proposal ideas please

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I'm planning to propose to my girlfriend soon, during our 7 night caribbean cruise. We are young (late 20's) and have been together for almost 11 years.

My girlfriend LOVES Labadee. The cruise will be docked in Labadee the day of her Birthday, so I had plans to book an over the water cabana with Labadee views, and propose inside the cabana; however, there will be 2 ships in Labadee that day and Cabanas are totally booked. BUMMER... now I gotta change my entire plan and I'm clueless.

I am very private and would not want to do my proposal in front of people. I prefer a more intimate, romantic proposal. I'm considering ALL ideas. Onboard or not.... just something romantic that she never forgets.

We are booked in an Oceanview cabin, Jewel of the seas.

Any ideas would REALLY be appreciated.

Congratulations to you both!

From the guidance you've given us, it sounds like a proposal over a romantic dinner in a speciality restaurant would be too public (I am not familiar with the Jewel of the Seas, so I don't even know if there are such restaurants on board). I assume there's the option of room service in your cabin, which of course would be private.

But since you said your GF loves Labadee and the port day is also her birthday, it sounds like a proposal onshore there would be the most memorable for her. I've never been to Labadee, but would you be able to arrange a little picnic on the beach... or is there some special spot ashore there that is meaningful to your GF where you could pop the question?

Come up with an engagement ring while you are snorkeling?

I'm sure whatever you decide will be wonderful!

Really good ideas!!!! I'm getting really excited. Everything you said sounds amazing. Snorkling, picnic.... my mind is running 100 per hour now.

I love the found a treasure snorkeling idea.. middle of the ocean is pretty memorable and can be private since people cant tell what you are doing out there..

I was engaged on the Carnival Glory.. and my fiance was a damn sneaky genius that day.. But it was very public so it wouldnt work for you.. She had the CD do a morning show on the JUMBO tron on the Lido deck. (this was a show that was not normally scheduled that day) it was in the morning as everyone was waiting on deck as we pulled into my fave port Grand Turk.. and in the middle of the show the CD says " I dont know what else to say, so Im just gonna do it.. Then reaches off camera for a sign my fiance had made that read: Shannon Will you marry me?... " It read it out loud and still didnt realize for a second that it was me.. then my fiance dropped to her knee next to me with a ring.. I cried like a damn sissy in front of everyone.. lol It was perfect for me..

Congrats in advance..

I proposed to my BF of 7 years on the NCL Jade while we were cruisng to Greece. We are both young(mid 20's) so I wanted it to be something he would remember for the rest of his life. I booked a couples massage and while we were getting our massage I had the room stewards sprinkle rose petals on the floor in our cabin that lead to the bathroom where a bubble bath and a bottle of champagne were waiting. While in the bath I slipped the ring on his finger and asked him to spend the rest of his life with me. After the bath I had arranged for us to have a romantic dinner on our balcony. It was a wonderful night and something I know I will remember for the rest of my life.

I would be weary of pulling out a ring while snorkeling... I'd hate to lose it!

I have not been to Labadee so can't suggest any non-canbana locations or how to do it.

Finding a quite spot and maybe enlisting a waiter or someone on ship's staff to come running over with an urgent message/bottle of champagne may be fun.

I also like the couples massage/cabin with roses and bubble bath idea.

First up Congratulations!!

Just been reading the other suggestions, all fantastic! But still sounds like something on land in Labadee would be better, also combining it with your gf's birthday and that she loves Labadee.

Found this:

Have a read of the Beach Time section. You could always have a think about doing the 15 - 20 min boat ride to Malfini Beach. Says it has limited space, but you might be in luck as I guess most people will be at the main beach near the port!

Good Luck!

There is a lovely old bell tower on Labadee near the Cabanas -- you can stroll up there. The spot has a great view of the water and ship and would be a very romantic place for a proposal. Hardly anyone ever goes there. I will see if I can find my pictures and post them here.

Congratulations.

Tillydog: Thank you. I've been reading about Labadee's Malfini beach. I'm even considering it. The thing I don't like is that the excursion is fairly short, as you spend only about 2 hrs at Malfini beach. I read the cove is beautiful, but after reading reviews many people complained the time is too short.... still, it's an option.

Kathy: PLEASE, if you find pics of the old bell, I would love to see them!!!! I read about it before. Even though we've been to Labadee 3 times, we've never seen it. We usually go to Nellie's beach for the entire day.

Rhino: Thank you for the website. I will call them and see what they offer!

Have a good week everyone!

I can't believe I can't find the picture but am still looking (I have over 10K of them on my computer. Anyway, if you are standing in the middle of Nellie's beach looking out at the water, turn to your right and walk towards the stone wall (low) step up on stone wall and there is a path way up the little hill at the top of the hill is the old bell tower. There is a flat clearing around the bell tower. I will continue the hunt for the picture. Actually one of the beach guys had taken another couple up there for a tour so when they left I asked him to take a picture of me there and he not only did that but he crawled down the outcropping and got an awesome picture of the ship. I tipped him and thanked him big time. Back to hunt for the pictures.

Ohhhh yeeesssss, I remember now! we went there one time (first time we visited Labadee) now I remember.

That's a very nice area. Would be nice to have a picnic/lunch there and propose (if cabanas keep being sold out). I keep checking daily to see if any open and I can steal one. Thank you Kathy!

Congratulations to you both. After 25 years my partner and I will be heading up to Washington State to offically get married. We are very excited.

As one poster said, do contact te Wedding Planner at Royal Caribbean. There should be very helpful and may even be able to "pull some strings" and get you a cabana.

Congratulations again, and enjoy !!!

Glad you remember the spot -- it is rather special and I believe it is over 300 years old.

Finally found the picture. Now I can't get it to attach. UGH. I tried to add it to my photo link below but it appears that is no longer working. It has been awhile since I have posted on Cruise Critic.

I will keep my fingers crossed that your score a cabana.

UPDATE!!!

I heard back from the Royal wedding department and here's what they have to say:

Happy New Year to you as well! Your story was beautiful and thank you for sharing with us. I am going to reach out to our Onboard Coordinator onboard Jewel of the Seas to see if we can try to arrange something. I can not guarantee anything but of course will see what I can do. Of course there would be the package cost incurred with this option "Royal Proposal Package". With this since we are purchasing a proposal package the ship may allow us to use this area. Once I go ahead and hear back from them I will send you over an email with information given to me from them.

I am definitively excited! fingers crossed.

Tillydog: Sorry I didn't answer your questions before, but The cruise is in May, so I have 4 months.

Good luck sweetie.

Your plan sounds so romantic. :)

i bet your gf will love the attention.

And btw you look stunning in your bikini. Your girl's a lucky girl.

We are just the funloving type that never knows how to get romantic...I wish we knew how to. our proposal was just a mutual agreement. Which is ok, it's just the way we are, but still very much in love.:p

Thank you!!! you are so sweet!

Hey, nothing wrong with being the funloving type, I bet you two are a blast. We still are as well! just adding some space for romanticism.... it's not that hard, trust me; but as long as you are in love, you can do whatver you like.

Now that you mentioned 'stunning' :o (what are you talking about???, look at you!!!) ... it's so curious that some people don't 'get' we are a couple. For whatever reason they all think to be a lesbian you gotta be over-weight, masculine, and ride a motorcycle.... hate it. We are the total opposite.

You are such a darling.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Neither of us are exactly the flamboyant type of a stereotypical gay man, so I can relate to you.

I wish you both all the best :) and keep on cruising.

Lot's of love, xxx D

Perhaps we bump into eachother on the pooldeck some day. :)
