Fremantle - day trip to Rottnest Island?

Rottnest Island makes for a great day trip out of Fremantle/Perth. We enjoyed renting bicycles to cycle around the island for the day. If you aren't a cyclist, there are HO/HO buses, Segway tours, and guided tours. See the Rottnest Island Vistor Center website for more info: http://www.rottnestisland.com

Re: quokkas. They are cute little critters and, for the most part, unafraid of humans. You can pet them but do NOT give them food or water. Here's why (from the above website):

"It is important for visitors to refrain from feeding quokkas and other fauna on Rottnest Island. Quokkas may become very ill as a result of eating unsuitable food such as bread, chips and meat. It is also equally important not to provide quokkas with an artificial water supply as it has the potential to alter natural behavior and can also cause toxicity within the quokkas body leading to death. Rottnest Island Rangers may issue infringements to people who feed quokkas."

Am on a B2B with changeover day in Fremantle and an 8pm sailaway,

Always up for doing something different.....someone has suggested the above trip to see the quokka.

What do you think?

Using the link GradUT has kindly supplied, the cost for two on the Ferry is $158.00 roughly, depending what date you are going, that's return. Then to get round the island, bike hire - which is $50.00 deposit + $30.00 per bike pp - deposit refunded at the end of the day of course. The HO HO bus is $20.00 pp Give it a good checking over - it can be an expensive day out. Food/dining is not cheap, they have a great bakery, again, not cheap.

Not to put you off, but if money is no object, go for it. There are other things to do on the island, all at a cost. They have introduced a $25.00 fee to go on the island, just check that is included in your ferry fare. Not sure if it is. Check it out.

It's one of the most expensive places to go these days.

You could jump a train to Perth, jump a ferry to South Perth and go to the Zoo there - you would see quokka's at a fraction of the price, kangaroos. koala's emu's and all other animals that are in zoo's the world over. Fabulous café strip at South Perth.

Here is a link http://perthzoo.wa.gov.au/

It is $29.00 entry and here is a map of the zoo - and you can the Australian section, with all our Aussie critters :p http://media.perthzoo.wa.gov.au.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/6163-Zoo-Map-WEB-Aug15f.pdf
