New Sticky Compilation of Articles on "What to Expect on a River Cruise"

The one on cabins is woefully incomplete and needs to have the names of the missing lines put in. The aren't any names, just places to put the names.

I'm not confident that any of them would help a noob find a line, but they might help someone get their expectation aligned with reality.

  • 2 weeks later...

A nice compilation of topics. One thing: I am not so happy with sentence under "Low water levels". The phrase "Will my cruise line contact me if there is an issue? Yes, although don't expect to get much notice. River cruise companies prefer to keep their passengers happy by sailing the published itinerary, so they will often wait until just a week or two before the voyage leaves to announce changes." could give the impression that it is possible to be notified always a week in advance. However this is not true. For low water levels in my experience anything between two weeks and four days is possible depending on the situation. One cannot always know a week in advance if the water will be too low but a trend is certainly possible to determine and it is possible to inform passengers of possible changes. For high water issues it is sometimes only possible to know about 48 hours in advance of a likelihood of changes. It somewhat also depends on how much you want to alert your passengers to the issues when a closure of a river section can be a matter of rain or no rain within the space of six hours.

I think a rephrasing of the sentence or extension of the info might be better for potential cruisers although the basic information is of course correct.
