Package Pricing Feels Deceiving Lately

Recommended Posts

Recently, Norwegian, Celebrity, and now HAL have been marketing package deals with beverage packages, specialty restaurants, internet, etc. thrown in for the sales price. But at the same time, they offer special lower rates for residency or other special reasons, but then don't include the package at that price. So they lure you in to look at the rate, but then when you call to book thinking you've found a great deal, you're told it doesn't apply to that price. The latest Norwegian specialty is advertising a much lower rate at each cabin level for a guarantee, while the fine print says the Free at Sea promotion won't apply to guaranteed cabins so it's worthless if you wanted the package.

I wish several of the sites out there wouldn't list the lowest price while simultaneously showing the package promotion unless it's included at that price. So annoying!!!

This is no different then any other business, item or sale. Every business wants to sell stuff so if A puts something on sale B wants to do the same thing. If they can't beat the price then they offer an incentive. It is Economics 101. As far as area sales, why do you think they want you to put in your zip code before giving you a price?

Of course. But it can be counterproductive if the consumer becomes convinced the pricing isn't legitimate and starts looking elsewhere. There are millions of vacation alternatives, cruising just being one of them. While there are folks who will always want to cruise no matter the price, others will simply shy away if they don't feel they're being treated fairly because of a perceived bait and switch on pricing.

We find the deals being offered very fair and fully understand no company lets you combine multiple offers just like you do not combine coupon offers at stores and restaurants. The cruise line offers lets me pick which offer is best for me this is great! Understand best for me may not be best for you. I never expected to get the over 55 offer, the Florida resident offer, then add in the free beverage package, the free this and free that. Wow you would be cruising for free. Not understanding is why you use a travel agent to help.

First does any one still believe Anything on a ship is free besides the air you breath?Like any purchase it's incumbent on the buyer to read the fine print. Then you compare and decide if "it's" worth it. Knowledge is power you must calulate what the real cost is and choose based upon reality.

Good values are available. JMHO FWIW :p
