Trip Report: Majesty of the Seas 5/9-5/13

Recommended Posts

I started this review after the cruise but didn't get around to posting until now. Work always gets in the way of cruising! Warning: I will be posting tons of pictures so may get quite long.

Brief Intro

There's two of us in this cruise; both in our late 20's. This is my 4th cruise and her 3rd.

This Majesty cruise was not really planned. Our original itinerary was to fly to Fort Lauderdale, cruise on the Oasis and come home. But, browsing around sites, we found this cruise at a really good price so we called our TA. She somewhat reluctant booking this cruise for us. According to her, we might not enjoy the smaller ship as our recent cruises were on larger ships. We discussed and discussed and conculded that since we were paying a lot for airfare, we might as well and so we did...

Pre-Cruise

May 7th - We flew out of Vancouver to Montreal at 11:30pm and from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale. We got to FLL about 12:30pm. We had booked a shuttle to Miami and was told that we'd get a call once our plane lands. We waited for a bit and didn't get any call so I called the shuttle service and they told us that our reservation was for the 18th and not the 8th. Arg! we are not off to a good start, I thought. I should have double checked the confirmation email but neglected to. I canceled the reservation and booked another shuttle outside the airport and we were off to Miami.

We stayed at Intercontinental Miami pre-cruise. We decided to pay the extra $20 to get a nice view of the port.

Famished, we then walked to Bayside Marketplace for some lunch. We decided on Mambo Cafe. Portions were big and price decent. We loved the mojo sauce that came with the fried pork chunks that we asked the server for the recipe =]

We then headed back to the room as we were still jet lagged

We skipped dinner as we were still full from lunch. There's a Starbucks at Intercontinental so we grabbed a danish and banana loaf for breakfast. Shortly after breakfast, we checked out and took a cab to the port.

Port/Check In

We got to the port in about 10-15 minutes around 10:45am. Left our luggages with the porter and went inside to check in. We were quite early so we had to wait in the area after going up the escalator. After 15-20 minutes of waiting, we were allowed to go through to check in. Check in was a breeze (no more than 15 minutes) and we were seated shortly after. Come noon time, everyone was still seated in the waiting area. Apparently, some of the passengers from the previous sailing got off the ship late. The waiting area got really packed. A lot of people were now standing and others sitting on the floor. We were told by our TA that this cruise was sold out due to families celebrating Mothers Day.

We were scheduled to board after the d/d+/pinnacle/emerald and platinum members and right after they boarded, a lot of the cruisers charged to the front to try to board even when they're seated at the far back of the room. Port staff ushered them back to sit and restated that everyone will go up according to their seats. We were then called and headed off to the ship.

Day 1

We walked around after boarding to take pictures while there's barely anyone around.

We then headed off to Windjammer for some Honey Stung Chicken. Selection was good and staff were all smiles welcoming everyone. After lunch we went to our cabin on deck 6. No luggage yet so we walked around and took more pictures.

Our muster station was in the Schooner bar and during the drill, I noticed there were people in their bathing suit, dripping wet. I just shook my head. Though they did towel off as cruise staff explained how to put on a life vest.

We hung out on the pool deck for sailaway.

Day 2 - Nassau

After we had our breakfast, we got off the ship and headed to Junkanoo beach, We stayed there for not more than 10 minutes and walked back to the port.

We've always wanted to go to Nassau to see Atlantis so we booked the Discover Atlantis excursion through the ship. The excursion took over 2 hours and there were tons of walking involved. That property was huge! We got dropped off at the Coral Towers and once inside, we all waited around the shops area to meet our guide. We walked past the shops and into the casino where our guide explained what the decorations symbolized.

We were in an Oceanview F2 category (cabin 6066) on the Majesty and inside cat M on the Oasis (cabin 10139).

We didn't like our cabin on the Oasis. We kept hearing rolling noises like a trolley rolling and banging on the wall. We were hearing this all night throughout the cruise. We complained but maintenance couldn't find what it was. They too heard the noise while standing outside our room.

We stayed at Westin Beach resort pre-Oasis. i believe we paid less than $90 through hotwire. We arrived early but our room wasn't ready. We left our luggages with them and decided to stuff our beach bags with worn clothing and get some laundry done. We asked a bellman where the closest laundromat is and he said he'll ask a colleague. when he came back, he had a google map printout for us to take. I thought this was nice :)

After Atlantis, we went to Senor Frogs for some drinks and conch salad. The conch salad was so delicious and fresh. The conch man, as they call him, made it in front of us.

Dinner was again, at windjammer for sushi. We had late seating dining and we found that after coming back from a port of call, we're always hungry so we'd have snacks. By 7pm, we'd be hungry again so we'd get sushi from the windjammer but these usually leave us full so we'd just skip dinner at MDR altogether.

We also called for room service. Spinach and Artichoke dip, Honey stung chicken and pizza...yum!

Then it was time to call it a day

Day 4 - Key West

In Key West, we walked around Duval Street and then walked to the southernmost point in 90°F weather (32°C)!!! It was way too hot so we took a cab back to the port. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that we tried Kermit's chocolate-dipped key lime pie. It was way too rich and creamy for my taste.

Cookies in Duval Street were huge!

It was time to pack and coming back to our cabin, there, on the bed, was our disembarkation tags :(

_MG_5416.jpg

Disembarkation

Disembarkation went smoothly and without a hitch. We took a taxi to Avis and off to Fort Lauderdale we went to board Oasis the next day.

In closing, we really enjoyed our time on the Majesty and we'd do it again given the chance.
