there are a ton of threads at CC on this...some cruisers pack all that was listed and some pack very little of what is listed and BOTH do just fine!!

YOU have to find what WORKS best for YOU and the type of traveler you are......if you take ALL that on the list you better have an extra bag!!

:DLeaving on March 19 to Mexico. Would like to get ideas as to what to pack for a must have list! Already have disinfecting wipes and my coffee mix! Any other ideas!

Swiss army knife--just don't put it in your carry on for your flight.

Assorted sizes of the zip lock plastic bags. Always take extras.

Bubble wrap if you plan to buy booze.

That is quite the list! It has on it absolutely everything you might need on a trip! Lots of great ideas that I wouldn't have thought of! Thanks!! I will narrow it down to personal choices and go with that! Thanks again !!!

The power strip is a must have! Most cabins have only one outlet plus this way you plug everything into one stop and less chance of forgetting them when it is time to leave! Have done that before!

SD cards are much cheaper now so I have one for each day and place them in a dated ziplock bag, when taking pictures of ports and the ocean and beaches it is real hard to remember when you get home what beach was what!

You really only need the basics for Mexico, anything you forgot you will be able to find in any port. Having traveled to Mexico a dozen times I have learned to tone done the packing, everywhere you go will be very causual and relaxed and hot!

Your prescription meds, contacts or an extra set of glasses, simple comfortable clothes and sunscreen!

If your a drinker you might want a bottle opener, we bought a bucket of beer to take back to our balcony only to find out when we got there that we couldn't open the Corona's and had to wait for the room stewdard to arrive with one that he could not leave with us!

We bought our own at our first port of call!!

Have a great time in Mexico!

OP.. my standard tips for packing are:

Pack a small flashlight in case the ship loses power, take over-the-counter meds with you and just take them in the bubble pack, leave the box at home, and cross pack if you are traveling with someone. The cross packing is wonderful if one of your pieces of luggage gets lost at least you will both have clothes to wear. Also cross pack your personal items...ie razors, etc. Finally it is a nice touch to pack a few thank you cards. I usually try to remember to pack some to use when giving extra tips to crew members. I just write a note saying "Thanks for helping make our vacation so special".

Small tap light for the bathroom. Those middle of the night trips are an "eye opener" with the bright light from the bathroom. I always put on the tap light during the night. On Epic with the transluscent glass door to the toilet area, a tap light is nice because it doesn't illuminate the whole cabin when you need lighting in the middle of the night.

I take one carry-on with stuff I could absolutely not get along without and a couple of changes of clothes. That way if our baggage got lost I wouldn't be totally helpless. One time I thought about just trying to not unpack and just use the carry-on stuff but I've never actually carried through on that.

I reviewed my personal packing list and saw nothing that wasn't all that exciting. I do agree about a flashlight. I even take one of those when just going to a hotel. OTC medicines are one of my must haves, especially for diarrhoea. You always seem to need them when the gift shop is closed.

I'm flabbergasted, this thread can't be serious, people discussing what to take with them on a cruise! What's next: does the crew sleep on board or not, and if so do we have to take with us lullaby songtexts?

some people have had some great ideas...such as A high lighter to help plan for the next day on the ship, with so many options to choose from.....would hate to miss something that I would really want to see or do! Come on! don't burst our bubble for the excitment of a cruise!

The majority of the crew do sleep on board, they have their own quarters, please do not get this confused with crew having cabins with paying customers, that is simpily not true.

:DLeaving on March 19 to Mexico. Would like to get ideas as to what to pack for a must have list! Already have disinfecting wipes and my coffee mix! Any other ideas!

A thermal cup for your coffee, to keep it hot.

Bonine or ginger capsules or similar for motion sickness.

Imodium or Pepto Bismol for upset stomach or diarrhea.

Lots of Sunblock. Sunglasses. A shade hat.

I'm prone to bronchitis because of a/c so I always bring meds in case.

I always bring a self made first aid kit: bandaids, antibiotic ointment,

aspirin, aloe vera gel (for sunburn, insect bites), cough syrup, cold pills, Blistex.

I bring a journal for daily journaling so I bring scotch tape and small scissors for including info from newsletter, or taping in postcard.

If you're going to handwash any clothes, bring a shamwow for squeezing out the water before hanging dainties etc on the shower clothesline.

I bring a small empty plastic water bottle to fill at buffet and I bring flavor packets to add to the water if I get tired of just water.

On our first cruise, I think I went overboard (pardon the pun) on packing. I brought way too much stuff, and while it didn't really get in the way (it mostly stayed in our luggage stuffed under the bed), we could have left it home.

It's not like you're on the SS Minnow, so if you forget something or find that you need something, you can most likely get it somewhere on board.

When I pack, I just try to go through my day and decide what I use as part of my daily life. And then I just pack it. There's a chance I might need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, but is it worth packing a night light? Eh, for me it's not. But it may be for you.

I like seeing packing lists, because they do contain items I might like to bring, but mostly I find that if I bring more than I need, it's just an extra suitcase I have to lug around.

That said, the ONE thing that I wish I had brought on the first cruise and didn't was aloe for the ridiculously bad sunburn I earned in Cozumel. Or just don't be a knucklehead like I was and put your sunblock on all appendages that will be exposed to sunlight!

Small bills for tips getting to port and at port and coming home. Cash for tips for whomever you'll need to tip. Small cash denominations for tips on excursions and for shopping----if you bargain, you want to have the change and not big bills getting change. Plastic bags....different sizes that zip closed. Pens/post its/hiliter. ALARM CLOCK. Flashlight or nightlight. New batteries in everything and extras. A power bar if you'll be charging lots of gadgets as there's usually only 1 outlet. DOUBLE CHECK: passport, all necessary tickets, ship docs!!!!! Small travel pack of t.p. and toilet seat covers for excursions. Crystal Lite travel packs...better and cheaper than soda card. Duck Tape.
