Check in process for NCL at MCT

Boarding the NCL Breakaway on Sun Dec. 3rd.

Just wondering what the check in process was like at MCT.

I have been to others and at some you check your luggage from the "parking lot" area upon entering the port area. Then you move into the building to go thru the security and check in for the trip.

My husband and I would like to do a little sight seeing after checking in. So we plan to arrive at around 9:30/10am.. for anyone with experience.

Is it better to drop luggage, sight see then check in totally. Or do the whole process then leave?

We were also planning on parking off site. So could we drive in, drop off and check in later on?

We park at the pier, take the elevator down, drop luggage with porters, go through security, wait on line to check in, then wait to board. On our last cruise, we parked around 9:30, were done checking in a little after 11. We were on the ship right before noon. If you don't park at the pier, you will need transportation there.

Thank you for this information. Just looked at the itinerary and realized departure is at 3. Prob won't have time to sightsee anyway.

OP, you started another thread but it's for the same sailing and can be confusing for someone trying to follow & respond.

Where is off-site parking? Are you arriving the night before ? What sightseeing plans do you have ?

BA sails at 3 PM, all abroad is 1 PM but no later than 2 PM if online check-in is completed, or risk denied boarding since ship has to finalize pax manifest for Homeland Security to clear for sailing. Ship typically dock around 7 AM for scheduled 8 AM pax as a routine turnaround - priority disembark around 11 AM and general boarding @ 11:30. Mandatory safety/muster drill is 2:30 - buffet & other ship services stopping at 2 PM in preparation, are usually ready around 1 PM.

You can drop off checked luggage with porters outside by curbside (Pier 88 is used - on 2nd. level) as early as 8 or 8:30 AM although most of them will be downstairs in arrival hall helping disembarking pax. Security usually does not open till 9 or 9:30 AM and check-in is generally no earlier than 9:30 AM.

Some folks do walk down a few blocks to see the Intrepid Museum (only small bags allowed for security reasons) in the morning and return by 1 or 1:30 PM to complete check-in and boarding, with time to do a quick lunch. Times Square is a 10 to 15 minutes walk to and from, so what you can see & do is limited.

You can do a little bit of sightseeing but not a lot ... might be better off post-cruise upon disembarkation, paying a little more for parking. Rooftop parking at MCT at $40 a day/ max of $400 is convenient & simple, secure and no surcharges for suv-van-pickup truck, etc. and below NYC's current parking rates.
