ChancerandDancer Posted August 20, 2017 #26 Share Posted August 20, 2017 No, we are travelling as a couple and not part of a group. Hope to see you there!
Travels with Lisa Posted August 20, 2017 Author #27 Share Posted August 20, 2017 I am sure you will enjoy your Seabourn cruise but don't get too excited about the marina. Its used less and less. We were on twice last year and twice again this year (in the Med) and never saw it used once. We have used it in the past however and found it a big let down as you are not allowed to swim in the sea. well that is disappointing!
Travels with Lisa Posted August 20, 2017 Author #28 Share Posted August 20, 2017 Hi I have started a roll call for those who are cruising November 11th on the Odyssey. Looking forward to chatting there!

If the marina is in use, generally it is possible to swim in the sea within the swimming cage.

marama Posted August 21, 2017 #31 Share Posted August 21, 2017 If the marina is in use, generally it is possible to swim in the sea within the swimming cage. Yes, but its about the size of a deep paddling pool, so pretty pointless it seems to me!
markham Posted August 22, 2017 #32 Share Posted August 22, 2017 The marina is a platform for some banana boats, kayaks and the like with a signup and lots of supervision. The small swimming cage is just for the experience and for safety. If you want to swim lengths you can always go to a beach or maybe a hotel pool. Did anyone expect a Seabourn ship to carry around and then set up a 20 by 40 foot backyard pool? The marina was setup for a couple of hours in the calm bay of Spetsis, Greece last week when we were on Odyssey. It was a terrific experience and so another diversion for us alongside the tender to the town and lunch there. Happy and healthy sailing!
Baz-t Posted August 22, 2017 #33 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Not sure I agree the swimming cage is pointless. A few years ago on the Legend, the ship came to a halt in the Andaman Sea. The sea was totally tranquil. Engines closed down and Captain came with an announcement. The marina was being lowered and the swimming cage put in the sea. Anyone who wanted to swim in a sea with the depth below of 14,000 feet could do so. Needless to say, there were many, many takers. A list of guests was drawn up with us having 5-10 minutes each to enjoy this Seabourn experience. Pointless, maybe - but another Seabourn memory for those of us on board!
