jwjax Posted November 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2014 Is there a list of ships which have easy access to the HDMI/AV Jacks on Cabin TV's? Or, if no list exists, can anyone post your success/failure in connecting to the cabin TV on your cruise(s)? I have had limited success in connecting my camera/laptop/tablet on past cruises to the cabin TV. This was on all cruise lines that I have sailed. Most newer hotels offer easy access via ports/ or jacks on the desks. So I just wanted to see why it is hit and miss in the cabins on the ships? Also, is there a known reason why they would restrict access to these inputs on the cabin TV's??
CAnative1 Posted November 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2014 I was recently on the Miracle and attempted to connect my laptop to the tv via HDMI cables/port. Accessing the port on the tv was no problem. The problem was switching the tv to the HDMI source. The remote for the tv (and the controls on the tv itself) were useless. I then attempted to do it from the remote control capabilities on my phone, but that did not end up working either. The best I was able to do with my phone was turn the tv on and off. SadieN Posted November 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2014 Did a cabin crawl in the Miracle. The suite had purpose built jacks for pax use.
Rare Honolulu Blue Posted November 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 24, 2014 The CRTs in my rooms on my Valor cruises were so old I can't imagine them having HDMI ports. An RCA AV jack would work, except I think the ports were in the back and the TV itself was several feet above floor level... you'd need a long cord or an extender to get them to reach anywhere useful. The TV in my cabin on the Conquest was more up-to-date. I didn't look for any HDMI outlets on it, because I had no need for them. Then again, the TV was near the ceiling, so I would've needed a long cord to connect anything.
irishnyc Posted November 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 24, 2014 Also, is there a known reason why they would restrict access to these inputs on the cabin TV's?? Likely because if you're in your cabin watching tv, playing online, playing with a gaming system, paying with your computer, etc., then you're not out spending money on drinks, in the casino, or anywhere. RWolver672 Posted November 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Also, is there a known reason why they would restrict access to these inputs on the cabin TV's?? I'm sure they restrict access to the imputs because not everybody knows HDMI from a hole in the ground. If you set your TV to HDMI while onboard and left it that way, the next passengers using that cabin might not know how to change it. Then maintenance would be getting a call. Times that by a few hundred people and you'd have a mess on your hands. Most of the TVs that we've had onboard never had ports that you could easily get to anyway. near the beach Posted November 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 25, 2014 We have had some success using av cables to look at photos from our camera on the TV. Not on all TVs. Many TVs can swing out like a cabinet door opening that gives you easy access to the TV. Also a place behind it to store things if you need space. jwjax Posted November 25, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Likely because if you're in your cabin watching tv, playing online, playing with a gaming system, paying with your computer, etc., then you're not out spending money on drinks, in the casino, or anywhere. Good thought! :) Although, I am thinking that most people needing/wanting access to the TV inputs, are more than likely just wanting to look at pics taken after a day's excursions?;) Those tiny screens on the cell, or small tablet ....don't do a pic justice for the most part! On a larger screen, t is easier to tell which pics to delete.:D But, watching a DVD on a laptop or tablet, via the Cabin TV would be a nice perk....if it were available.
Kenito Posted November 29, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 29, 2014 Even if not readily available, call guest services and ask to speak to the IT manager for the ship. We did, and he came to the room with an adapter so we could hook up. This was several years ago, so probably better availability these days. MrsPhoenix91 Posted November 29, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2014 jwjax, thank you for asking this! My husband & I were just talking about the HDMI jacks for the LG 32 inch (or smaller) that will be in our Ecstasy grand suite.

Wow, Good idea!:) I didn't even think of this, and I was an IT Mgr before I retired! Duh! I will ask about it next week on our B2B cruise. :)
