What is your favorite restaurant in each Alaskan port or city (for those on land tours)?

Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali, Icy Straight, Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, others?

Is it near the ship or "out and around" ?

TIA!

Do you know your hotel? Just trying to figure out what to suggest, according, to where you'll be staying!

AKSusan and AKStafford,

We are looking for place dinner for r 7 adults on a Friday night in July. We will be tired from a long day (driving to and from Knik River Lodge and our helicopter ride and Dogsled adventure) and will need to be up early the next day to take the train to Anchorage. Any suggestions for a place near the Voyager Inn with good food so we can make a reservation in advance?

Anchorage: F Street Station if you can get a seat. If you have a rental car, Suite 100.

Talkeetna: Twister Creek

Denali: Rose's Cafe in Healy

Thanks

Okay, places that will take reservations - these would all be an easy walk from your hotel - Simon & Seafort's -http://www.simonandseaforts.com/menus/10Dinner1206.pdf and Glacier Brewhouse https://glacierbrewhouse.com/

and their sister restaurant Orso it's Italian restaurant http://orsoalaska.com/.../uploads/2015/02/DINNER-1.5.17.pdf

A lot of the other places we eat downtown don't take reservations or are further away from our hotel!

These, I'd say they are all under a 1/2 of mile from the hotel to these. Regular sized city blocks (say that, because, one time we were in Vegas, and, someone said it was only like 4 blocks away, and, their blocks aren't the same as a regular city block that's for sure, and, these are all on the same level, not up or down a hill!

Simon & Seafort's has a great happy hour in their saloon (aka bar) http://www.simonandseaforts.com/menu.php...,, but, you'd have to eat before 6, though, you can get the regular menu or the bar menu at any time in the saloon. Humpy's http://www.humpysalaska.com/ and their sister restaurant Williwaw http://williwawsocial.com/menu-2/ McGinley's Irish Pub, this is basically across the corner from the Marriott http://mcginleyspub.com/, and Glacier Brewhouse https://glacierbrewhouse.com/and Fat Ptarmigan http://fatptarmigan.com/menu/

In regards to seating, we get very busy downtown during the summer season. Heck, I've made reservations at places, and, still have had to wait a bit to get our table. So, if you're interested in Glacier Brewhouse, I strongly recommend reservations (they use Open Table). Humpy's and McGlinley's don't take reservations, and, Williwaw only takes same day reservations. Simon& Seafort's takes reservations for the restaurant and not the saloon, but,if you go for Happy Hour, usually can get a table in the saloon (may not be right at the window though). Hope this helps. There is an Italian restaurant(sister company of Glacier Brewhouse) called Orso's, but, it runs on the pricier end http://orsoalaska.com/.../uploads/2015/02/DINNER-1.5.17.pdf Fat Ptarmigan takes reservations via phone, but, not sure how far out they take them.

In regards to your friends at the Hilton Garden Inn, they are out in our Midtown area, and, are really only in walking distances of chain restaurants – Applebees, Cattle Company, TGI Fridays, and, Golden Corral.

If they want to stay in midtown and grab a cab, I’d suggest Moose’s Tooth - http://moosestooth.net/menu/or Table 6 - http://www.table6.net/

Neither take reservations, and, I have to warn you that if they want to go to Moose’s Tooth, either lunch at 11, or after 2, and, before 5. Otherwise, it could be a 45 minute wait, and, unfortunately, sometimes that wait is outside. We usually don’t have a hard time getting seated at Table 6, and, if there is a wait, it usually isn’t too long!

I can highly recommend Simon and Seafort's. We just ate there last month when we were in Anchorage. I am not much of a seafood eater, but I had promised my husband that I would try a couple of seafood dishes while we were in Alaska. They had a rockfish special that night with creole seasoning and served with dirty rice that was to die for. My husband had a halibut dish that he really enjoyed.

If you will be in Anchorage for breakfast we loved Snow City Cafe! They even take reservations for breakfast they are so busy.

In Girdwood/Alyeska we took a shuttle to Double Musky which is/was one of Food Networks Top 10 Places to eat in America. It was a little pricey but the food was great. Others ate at the Seven Glaciers restaurant near the Alyeska Resort which required reservations and was even pricier.

I already mentioned the ones in Talkeetna in you other thread. There are pictures of menus and meals in my blog for each port stop if you are interested to look.

Thanks so much! Just read all of the pages! (Regarding your Alaska trip). Wow! Great info! I don't see the "final overview", scans of optional tours (land portion), etc that I thought you referenced. I am not very techno savvy so I might be overlooking it. Thanks again! Your Juneau day sounds exactly likes what I have planned!

Try looking at the "Live" thread I did during my trip. Here's the link & go to post #217 that is where the pictures of the tours you could book thru RCI during the land portion. Just keep in mind pricing is 4 years ago but I bet the types of tours offered is still the same.

Some you can get a few $ extra (like the Exit Glacier Hike, we did thru the hotel booked on our own and saved about $9-$10 per person. Others like our rafting trip were almost comparable in price.

I second the Double Musky, but, beware, they do not take reservations, and, there will be a line when they open (I've stood in that line, outside, in the rain, to get in!:))

Also, the last time my Mom and I stayed at Alyeska the Lounge (bar) had a pretty good menu! Really tasty bloody mary too!

I think the shuttle (it's Girdwood's own little transit bus service) stops near Chair 5, and, Mom and I usually go there at least once when she visits!

I'm not sure how far from downtown this (maybe 15 minutes?) is but I really also LOVED Paris Bakery and Cafe. They had awesome options when then and some great bakery items. Maybe AK Susan knows how far from downtown.

According to how traffic is, it would be about a 15 minute drive. Just out 6th Avenue, which becomes the Glenn Highway, off at the Muldoon exit.

"Icy Strait" is a tourism compound. I assume they have some dining. The location is a Native village, Hoonah. The Office, a dive bar, with a limited food service, best known for their fresh crab.

Downtown Juneau has some excellent fine dining and innovative cuisine frequented by locals, or there's places that have a view, passable food and large, noisy crowds. Which do you want?

Definitely want good food. View is nice but not mandatory. Prefer "local" but "touristy" ok if they have the best food.

Just a note on any restaurant or store. Always have your driver's license with you to eat or buy wine. My 50 something husband has been carded twice and I couldn't order wine because I didn't have my driver's license with me. I thought the carding in the wine store was hilarious. But at the restaurant the server explained that Alaska licenses have a red bar across the photo if someone has 4 alcohol convictions and they can not buy or drink alcohol.

Yeap, that's what they are looking for, plus, they make sure that you have a valid license.

One time I was buying margaritas at the liquor store, and we were discussing what they looked at, and, I looked, and my license was expiring in like 3 days, so, off I went to DMV.
