we are booked to cruise on POA in January

I would like to hike to the top of diamond head the day we embark

Our tsf to the ship is included from holiday inn beachcomber ( upgrade ?)

Would we have time to go to diamond head before tsf or should we do our own tsf or skip diamond head ?

Thanks

We used Kaimana tours. I think it was around $16 each and included transportation to and from our hotel, a bottle of water, a map and entrance into the park. The driver was great, giving a narrative along the way! Would use them again!

We also did this hike on embarkation day last year. We got a city bus that took us to the bottom of the hill. I forget how much it was for 4 of us....$2.00 each maybe? I think it cost $1.00 each for admission to the park.

We got there around 7 or 8. You have to go early or it gets too hot. Our only mistake was waiting for the bus to take us back. A lot of buses came by but not the right one. We should have taken a cab. In any event, we finally made it back and were showered and ready for our noon pickup. Same hotel.

Whatever you do, don't skip Diamond Head! It was awesome.

We have been to Oahu many times and never hiked Diamond Head. We will be there next week and it is on the list!!! A friend of mine was just there and said that there are now two ways to get to the top...the stairs and also a round about way. He took the steps up and the easier walk down but thinks doing the opposite would be the best. Hope you enjoy it. Cherie

We also hiked to the top a couple of years ago. You must go very early, as it does get hot, but the views from the top are worth it.

Part of the trail going up

Going thru a tunnel with steps

Steep stairs, almost at the top

But once there, just stop and take it all in

Beautiful photos! We will be there tomorrow, and planning to hike Diamond Head before embarkation on Saturday morning. I'm glad to see others have done it that day too!

Are cabs readily available at the Park? I was thinking I would have to call a cab to come pick us up and take us back into town.

I'm not interested in taking the bus.

Thanks.

Cruise NH, we were able to grab a cab for the trip back with no problem. There were only a few of them there but they were parked in the parking lot by the ticket booth. We did see some more on the way out on the other side of the tunnel.

We just came back from our POA cruise, and we did Diamond Head on embarkation day. We pre-reserved through this company:

http://www.hawaiiactivities.com/en/hawaii/oahu/a/15841

They picked us up right outside our hotel (Outrigger Reef) at 8:15am and drove us to the Diamond Head entrance gate. We had about 2 hours there and then the same driver picked us up at 10:30 and took us back to the hotel. We had a little over an hour to shower, pack up and check out at noon. It was great...fun hike, although crowded. We wanted to do the earlier time (at 6:30am) but by the time I booked it that time slot was full. It was pretty crowded at the top, and getting hot, so the earlier you can go, the better!
