Of the dates you quote, September & mebbe into October, after that the weather is unreliable.

But much will depend on where in the Med & whether your itinerary is city-based or resort-based. Cities (Barca, Rome, Venice, Athens) will be OK later & tourist attractions less-crowded, Cairo will be much better (cooler) later, but resorts (eg French Riviera, Spanish Costas, Greek islands) will have a tired out-of-season atmosphere.

We're planning on two weeks of back-to-back Western (Spain/Italy/France) and Eastern (Greek Isles) Mediterranean cruises.

I think any of the weeks in September/ October would be fine. Kids are back in school, but the weather will be still nice and warm. If you like cooler temps, go in October. I LOVE the heat, so we went in August. :D

I think we should do September. We don't want hot. But we don't want cool. We want warm. And we definitely want no/few kids.

Early September still is too hot IMO; I was sweltering in Istanbul on our first cruise which embarked on September 8. (Note that the seas are smoother in early June, particularly in the Eastern Med where the meltemi winds could cost you a few tender ports.)

I checked that first week in October. September can be fairly busy (so many people waiting until after the summer rush/crush is over) and it could be hot during that month. November might be get a little cool and/or have some places closing up as it is close to or at the end of the season. There are trade-offs and luck involved for guessing the right, perfect time.

June has worked very well for us. Mid June in 2006 for Athens to Istanbul for Greek Island and Turkish Coast and June 7-19 from Barcelona doing Italy, Croatian Coast. June is busy and nice, but not too busy or hot. That is what work for us both times.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Back from a June 7-19 Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 52,915 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

That is very helpful! The first week in October might be perfect.

We were aiming for beginning of October as well, for slightly cooler temps and less tourism/aka kids. But found out from airlines that "high season" is considered until October 15, and then cost in $$ and if using FF miles, goes down. So we booked mid October based on airfare.

Excellent point on the airline cost and/or frequent flyer points difference. Another good factor to consider. Much also depends on southern Europe versus the northern parts of the Med.

Thank you! That's helpful! The expensive flights to Europe will be a factor! Ugh!
