TrentS, I know you are familiar with the hotels in Miami, we are looking at the Marriott and trying to get some group rates. However, we would like to know how close is it to Bayside and the Port, what are the taxi fares from the Marriott to Bayside and the Port and is there alternative transport to get around, apart from taxis? Finally, what is close to the Marriott, in terms of restaurants, things to do and see?

Biscayne Bay Marriott is a nice hotel with awesome views of the Port of Miami and entire channel from the SE view rooms.

There's nothing to walk to from it. It's less than a 5 minute cab ride from Bayside Marketplace and the Port of Miami (well under $10 with tip), but as the neighborhood isn't the best and there are several major construction projects in the area you do not want to attempt to walk it.

MetroMover is another option. It's a free automated, elevated train that runs through downtown Miami, but I only cautiously recommend that during the daylight hours, and only with a large group - NEVER take it alone or at night!

If you're looking for a Marriott property, a nicer Marriott in downtown Miami is the JW Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/miajw

The JW Marriott is also about a 5 minute or so cab ride from Bayside and the Port of Miami, but is in a bit nicer neighborhood with a Morton's, and Gordon Biersch across the street, and a Capital Grille a few blocks away.

Thanks very much for your response. One couple in our group has stayed at the Holiday Inn and think it is an excellent location because taxi fares are not too high and Bayside is right there for dining/entertainment.Others have stated the condition of that hotel is not the best and do not wish to stay there again. The Intercontinental is not within our budget, aside from the Marriott, what other hotels do you reccommend for a pre cruise stay?

The Holiday Inn is very popular, cheaply priced, and the location is perfect, but it's old and not a place I would personally care for. It's fine for a night as long as you're not expecting a 4 or 5-star experience (I would consider it about a 2-star myself).
