Default Porta Fira vs. Ayre Gran Via

Looking at both Porta Fira and Ayre Gran Via for one night post cruise stay. We have to be at the airport for a 10 am flight the next day, so staying closer to the airport was important but we also want to be able to access transportation to tour the city.

Anyone familiar with either of these? Any info is helpful!!

We were also looking at Four Points Sheraton and Tyne Apolo... ( we have to use points so our choices are limited)

Thanks for any input!

Kim

There is no need to stay in a hotel near the airport.

For example the Hotel Porta Fira is about 6 miles from the airport and about an 8-10 minute taxi journey which will cost around €20.

A central Barcelona hotel would be about 12 miles from the airport and the 20 minute taxi ride will cost around €30-35.

If you stay at the Porta Fira you will not be near anything much (except an exhibition centre and a shopping centre)

In terms of location, from the hotels you mention I would choose the Tryp Apolo - next to a metro station and about 5 minutes walk from Las Ramblas.

I have stayed 2 times at Ayre Gran via. Perfect if taking airport bus A1 or A2. On inbound first bus stop, then walk back one block to hotel. Have to cross gran via and go almost in front of Catalonia Plaza high rise hotel for outbound.

The Arenas shopping in the old bull ring is right there, with great shopping and restaurants and great views from the large full rooftop terrace.

The hotel offered a fantastic breakfast, Spanish hotel style. Hotel modern, have great automated blackout windows to keep out light and noise.

New bus D20 goes down Parellel all the way to port, spacious with room for luggage. Plaza espana major metro and bus hub. Buses to center or walk over gran via.

The water fountain and laser show is just around corner and easy access to Monjuic and the fine arts centers.

They have travelzoo offers there often and i have paid as low as 69 euro including breakfast.

Wifi free but does not work well. Better in lobby.
