Need an excursion for Kauai

Can someone please recommend an excursion for Kauai besides Roberts and Kauai Eden Tours or the ones from the ship.

It is expensive but a helicopter tour would be great :) I have looked on line and Kauai does not have many tour operaters so I am hoping you get a reply from some past cruisers.

We are doing Kauai Photo tour and then a winged aircraft tour with Wings over Kauai.I think we might be on the same cruise as you, we are sailing Sept 15th.

We always just rent a car. It's cheap and easy. We prefer to go at our own pace. The last two times we rented a van with our table-mates.

Waimea Canyon makes a nice day trip.

We are doing the Waterfall Hike/Kayak Tour through Kayak Kauai. I've never been so I can't give details but it sounded pretty cool to us so we're signed up! :)

In Kauai, definitely do a helicoptor to see the Waimea Canyon and the Napali Coast from air.

This time we're doing Air Venture airplane tour, and renting a car (again) to drive to places ourself.

Our Waimea Canyon tour was one of the very best tours we have ever done! It was a Roberts Tour with the most knowledgeable lady bus driver that gave great insight to everything we were seeing.

We are doing Wings Over Kauai the first morning. We wanted the second day, but it was already taken. Still looking at options for the rest of our time there since the tours will be already gone when we are done with the flight and we have no desire to rent a car.

TSUMom, we are also in Texas and will be getting on the day you get off. :)

We're traveling with our toddler so a helicopter tour is out of the question. If we rent a car is it possible to see the whole island in one day including the canyon?

We have booked the "Wings Over Kauai" for October. I was impressed by the staff when I spoke to them. Price is better than the helicopter tour.

If you decide to rent a car may I suggest the book The Ultimate Kauai Book by Andrew Doughty. It is one in a series of books for the islands. They are wonderful travel guides and give detailed driving tours. We used them on our first trip to Hawaii and were very pleased.

Highly recommend Wings over Kauai. It's a family run operation that is very responsive to your needs. We did the flight on Firday, the last day of our recent POA cruise. They will pick you up at a shopping center not far from the pier, will take you to the airport, snap a few pictures of your group and then get you up in the air for an hour. When you land they'll give you a CD of the flight and then take you back to the ship. The interactive narrative is informatve and the scenery is breathtaking and provides perspective when you sail by the coast on the last day. When you get home you'll find a "thank-you" e-mail from them along with pictures of your group in front of the plane.

It was great, interesting even for a novice photographer like me - saw interesting and great scenery we'd never find on our own. Went to lots of places and definitely recommend

If you can afford it, hands down a helicopter tour is a great choice. You will be amazed at the scenery, nothing really compares to the Na Pali Coast and the Waimea Canyon and an air tour will take you to places you can not go on foot. We combined the helicopter tour with a land excursion, which took us to Hanalei Bay and other interesting and beautiful areas. We did our tour with the cruise line (only 3 couples-expensive) but I think the helicopter portion was contracted with Blue Hawaiian Tours and it was spectacular!

I have seen the Napali Coast and Waimea Canyon from a helicopter and a fixed wing aircraft, and from the the sea. Helicopter wins hands down! Although cheaper than a helicoter, the fixed wing flight can be pretty bumpy. The seas were also pretty rough when we toured by boat. Not sure if tme of year makes a difference but we have always been there between January and beginning of April.

Rent a car and get up to the north end and take a zodiac tour. It was a blast as you go into caves and snorkel some remote areas. It may not be as spectacular as seeing Kauai from the air, but it is a lot cheaper and interactive.
