Does anyone have any recommendations for taxis from Heathrow to Southampton the day before a cruise - staying in hotel overnight in Southampton so there aren't any issues with flight

There seems to be so many it would be great to get a recommendation

Thank you

I had a look there at the transport on the Heathrow website and used Friday next week and the cheapest price was £92 odds so it does work out better for you right enough. We didn't fancy going by road so we're taking the 'scenic route (I hope) and letting the train take the strain.

Try National Express - I use them quite a bit.

Yes ! We landed at Heathrow and took the National Express bus to Southampton. It is very convenient. There is a National Express bus desk at the terminal. We had made reservations on-line and opted to take an earlier bus after taking to representative . There are taxis at the bus depot to take you to your hotel in Southampton.

We did exactly the same (i.e stay in a Southampton hotel the night before) on a recent (2 months ago now) cruise, but parked at Heathrow T5 as we were flying back there.

We used this company : http://www.smithsairportcars.co.uk/

They were very good, I would certainly use them again. It was £67 + £7 for them to park at T5 to collect us.

Hope this helps.

Smithsairportcars are regularly recommended on the US cruise line forums for Southampton transfers. That seems a very reasonable price.

The train would be £70 for 2. And then you still have to get from the station to your hotel. A flexible coach is £50 for 2 and again, you then need to get to your hotel.

So for me, the taxi was by far the best option since it was straight to the hotel and someone helped with the cases as well.

Train is really a non-starter as there is no direct service. The two options are to use the regular coach service or a private-hire car.

Coach is the cheapest option and they run directly from LHR to Southampton, with the coach station in Southampton being within walking distance (or a cheap taxi ride) from most of the popular hotels. Coaches are big and comfortable and the driver will put the luggage in a space under the floor. http://www.nationalexpress.com/home.aspx

Private-hire is more expensive but more convenient: Smiths, Aquacars and West Quay cars are all based on the South coast and come well recommended.
