Help! How much money to take on a 7 Day Cruise?

Recommended Posts

Im going on a 7 Day cruise out of San juan Puerto Rico. Carnival Fascination and it stopping at 5 ports plus PR. There are 7 people in my party. How much cash should I bring? I placing my credit card for both staterooms, but I am also putting $250 for each person(7) in cash. we dont drink except for the occasional wine at dinner or at a show. We also do not drink soda neither do my kids. Gratuities are paid upfront. Hw much for a party of 7 should i bring in cash for port stops, taxis, souvernirs, etc

Thanks for help. My hubby and I have cruised before, but never with kids and parents.

Individual spending habits vary widely, but a reasonable guesstimate might be to allow $50 per person per port day - you might add another $50 per person for the cruise to cover room service tips (perhaps $1 or $2 per delivery) and additional cash tips if any really superior service was received. So, $300 per person for the cruise should be ample - and leave a chance of coming home with some left over cash.

Of course, the nature of the seven people can skew things - 5 year old boys are not likely to engage in impulse expenditures while 17 year old girls could put a different slant on things.

Any which way: have a great cruise.

You should be able to put most excursions on the card. The only cash you should need is for things off the ship like food or drinks. Only thing that won't sea pass on the ship is the casino and I believe even Carnival will allow you to do that if you set it up.

Tell me about it. Had it all within budget until the last day, then they had the sales

True! I have a 16yo daughter and there are alot of wants. My 12 and 14yo boys dont ask for anything. I planned on having my card on file but placing $200 per person on the account (just in case) and $5K in cash for the complete cruise. It my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary and I told them and my kids that they should have a great time. I've been saving for a year now and we dont leave till next year so there should be enough money for occasional splurges. Thanks for feed back.
