Hi! Have been thinking about this cruise but am wondering about the number of days at sea. Has anyone any advice to offer regarding their experiences re weather etc during the long sea days in both directions? We are seasoned cruisers and have cruised the Caribbean a number of times having flown there and back, but have never been at sea for such a long time without reaching ports. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Wilmar,
You don't say which month you are travelling, so cannot comment on the weather when you would be at sea. I have sailed on the Oriana, from Southampton to the carribean in both September and October and sailed back to Southampton twice in October. All crossings have been very enjoyable. The Atlantic most of the time was very calm, like a mill pond. I think you will enjoy the crossing and it also gives you time to settle in as well as a very relaxing start and finish to your holiday We were very lucky when we travelled as we had very good weather and enjoyed plenty of sunbathing days most of the days. Enjoy |

We have crossed the Atlantic 5 times in all and each one has been a different experience! the worst being on Oriana when we made the crossing from Vigo which is quite high when you compare with Madeira or Tenerife.......there was a big Atlantic swell on this crossing but my body soon seemed to acclimatise and on the third day I forgot to take medication for my nausea and felt perfectly OK!!
The weather begins to warm up a couple of days out of Southampton and when we were in Madeira last January it was quite warm and sunny and continued to improve as each day passed. The outward journey seems to go quicker as you are looking forward to arriving in the Caribbean its a good time to plan what excursions to do... I used the return journey as the opportunity to get some washing done and sort out the packing!! also download all the photos to the laptop.... There are also things to do on board such as the passenger choir performance, crew show, etc. as well as the normal daytime activities. We have enjoyed all our crossings and find it very relaxing!
