My son (20) and I will be docking in La Goulette on Weds 17th Sept on MSC Splendida from 0800 to 1600. Our main interest is Carthage and pos Sidi Bou Sad but the excursions are only for 4 hours and are Carthage + something else. Thought we would just do it ourselves on the train but know a good guide can bring things to life. Reading threads I found the name of a recommended tour company in 2006 so I emailed them and got the reply below. Would anyone be interested in sharing? I know starts too early so would need to adapt

** 07 : 30 / 08 : 00 a . m local time: Meet with the Guide at the parking facing La Goulette cruise village terminal main exit gate

Drive to Carthage to visit the archaeological site and museum .

- Visit of the Roman and Punic remains on the Byrsa hill

- Visit of Carthage archaeological museum .

- Stop at the Roman water storage and aqueduct .

- Stop at the tophet ( Punic sanctuary )

- Stop at the former Punico Roman harbours.

- Visit of the Roman public bath ( Antonius Pius)optional

** Visit of Sidi Bou Saïd : A charming village ** Optional visit to Tunis down town or drive back to La Goulette

The above tour includes :

** The transportation

** The entrance fees to the site of Carthage & Carthage

museum.

** The assistance of an English speaking Guide.

The rate per person depends on the number of participants.

For 2 persons : 100 $ per person in a 5 seats car.

** from 3 to 4 person : 80 $ per person.

** From 5 to 15 person : 70 $ per person.

The tour you are describing sounds kind of like the 4-hour ship excursion that we took two years ago on the Splendida. Tunisia was the only ship excursion that we took considering the situation there at that time. Have a good trip!

  • 4 weeks later...

Yesterday we got an e mail from Princess who have dropped La Goulette from the itinerary on our Ocean Princess cruise next week. Please let us know if you get to visit Tunisia today. Palermo has been substituted.
